This is prolly my last post before the new year, so I plan to make it happy, dammit, happy!

1) [livejournal.com profile] audiography is the best music comm that you're not a member of. Join up, get music, post music, learn about shit you didn't know existed (hello, Beatles/Beasties mash-up!, [livejournal.com profile] tarar!) Spread the love.

2) I’ve slowly been trying to do the [livejournal.com profile] yuletide thing, but dude, that’s a lot of stories and I’ve read like fifteen. There are four so far that I thought were fucking ace: a) To Angels (Dead Poets Society); Waste Our Lights in Vain (Romeo and Juliet); Eight Nights (The first GO fic I have ever read!) also, there’s an Achilles/ Patroculus story, Turning that is just so fucking beautiful it will break your heart.

3) I have so much love for [livejournal.com profile] obsessedmuch, [livejournal.com profile] serialkarma and [livejournal.com profile] ethrosdemon that it cannot be textually rendered. My girls make me a better person. I am so grateful to have them in my life. *adores*

4) Music Wot I Like! Spacehog – In the Meantime; Aqualung - Brighter than Sunshine; Oasis – Supersonic; and speshul for Lar and her profound Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels love -- Robbie Williams – Man Machine. There is a space here [] where Jeff should be, but I thought I'd put something new there instead: Faultline with vocals by Chris Martin - Your Love Means Everything.

5) due South

Leaving on a Jet Plane
*inspired by texting with [livejournal.com profile] serialkarma while on lay-over

Ray doesn’t travel well. He gets all uptight and tense, and the turbulence makes his stomach twist and turn until he thinks he’s going to be ill. It’s possible that his stomach gets all nervous because he’s going to see Fraser, but he tells himself that’s not it at all. He’s not concerned that Fraser won’t be there this time. He’s not anxious that something’s happened to Fraser out in the boondocks of north-of-nowhere and no one knows to call Ray first. It’s not about the distance. At least Ray doesn’t think it is. But he could be wrong.

*

Ray hates taking the early flight to see Fraser. He hates the way he can't sleep the night before, and inevitably finds himself wandering around his apartment, from the kitchen to the sofa to the bathroom to the bed, back to the sofa and the TV because he can't sleep, because he's too keyed up. Too full of go-go-go and Fraser-Fraser-Fraser to do anything beside twitch and pace and talk to Speedy, the turtle.

For as long as Ray can remember Speedy was just The Turtle or Turtle or 'that turtle that I own and needs to have its tank cleaned.' Yeah, Ray never even named the turtle until after that business with the hand of Franklin, and there being no hand and no nothing happening with Fraser, and then he left Canada and Fraser and got a clue. So Ray named the turtle Franklin, but he calls him Speedy for short.

The point in all this being that Speedy knows when Ray's all keyed-up about going to see Fraser, because he stares at Ray when Ray's talking to him about packing and snow shoes and donuts for Dief and how much he hates taking the early flight.

Speedy is not impressed by Ray's pitter-patter.

He’s probably glad to see Ray go.

*

They always have a lot of sex when Ray arrives.

They have plenty of sex on the second day and the third day and the fourth day, but they have a lot of sex on the first day. Hot, sweaty, dirty, fingers-in-mouths and bruises-on-hips sex. They fuck and squirm and rut until the sheets have fallen to the floor and the fitted sheet has pulled away from the mattress. Ray can feel the dampness on his palms and between his toes and in the small of his back. He can smell Fraser in his nose already, and he’s not even at the airport yet.

Fraser says the sex, or ‘the physical release of Ray’s manifested tension’, is to alleviate Ray's post-travelling stress, but Ray's not fooled. He knows from horny -- and Fraser is totally horny. Or he will be when Ray finally arrives. Ray himself passed horny about a week ago and is now just desperate. He can feel it in every strand of his slowly graying spikes and every twitch of his fingers. His fingers curl up slightly as though he’s already holding Fraser’s cock in his hand, and he licks his dry lips and makes a note to put on some Chapstick before he gets to Yellowknife.

*

Ray hates how cold it is at O’Hare. He hates how in the winter it’s almost as cold as outside and how he has to sit in the cheap, plastic chairs, which are never comfortable and always too hard. He hates the plastic and the too expensive coffee and all the kids running around like they’re possessed. He has no love for the guys driving the transit cars and the way they always almost run him over. It drives him crazy that there aren’t any arm rests for him to tap while he’s waiting.

Ray hates the waiting.

It’s like he’s always waiting. Waiting for the day, waiting for the flight, waiting to get there, waiting for Fraser. He didn’t even realize how much he was waiting on Fraser until the day he realized that Fraser was waiting on him. And then he felt kind of bad, because if he was impatient, Fraser must’ve been dying.

*

Ray hates the cramped airline seats and getting trapped in the middle seat of the three-seat aisle, because it was Fraser’s turn to come and visit, but Ray couldn’t wait another three weeks for that to happen, because Fraser’s made him kinda weak that way. He’s not weak, he just – he has needs and one of those needs is Fraser. So now he’s stuck in this middle aisle between someone’s grandma who smells of Ben-Gay and this loud, fat guy with no chin, who snapping his gum and farting every five minutes and pretending otherwise.

That’s just not buddies at all. That’s asking to be kicked in the head.

*

There are all these things that Ray hates about going to see Fraser. There are all these things that get on his nerves and make him crazy and murderous and really glad that he can’t pack heat in the airport. He knows he shouldn’t keep doing this to himself, but then he gets off the little prop plane he has to take to get to where Fraser is and he doesn’t care. And much later, when Fraser’s underneath him, squirming and moaning and making those noises that cause Ray’s toes to curl until they cramp up, Ray thinks that it isn’t the traveling he hates – it’s the pretending that this isn’t where he wants to be all the time.

6) I want to wish every last one of you and you a wonderful New Year, and to thank you for being so fabulous. I'd love to thank you all individually, but you're a lot of individuals and sadly, I'm a bit strapped for time. Nevertheless, you've been great readers and commenters and spell-checkers and nit-pickers. Your support means the world to me. I learn so much from you every day, and you make it such a pleasure to write and be involved in fandom. Thank you, it's my pleasure to be your Hack Writer, and I wish every last one of you a brilliant, safe and happy 2005.

Oh! The details. The details, the damp between Ray's fingers and the smell of someone's grandmother and the fitted sheet pulled up, and all the rest --! You have melted me to a puddle of goo. Happy goo, but goo nonetheless.

Hee! That site is so. Darn. Cool!

I bet they have to take it down soon, though. The Beatles are really stingy with their music - when I was doing clearance, they used to charge us three times the standard usage rate! I'm going to go enjoy it while it lasts *g*

And the story? *sigh* So lovely.

So Ray named the turtle Franklin, but he calls him Speedy for short.

Aw... ♥ This was beautiful and sexy and wonderful!

This is totally random, but doesn't Michael Jackson own the publishing rights to the majority of the Beatles' songs?

Huh.

I'm so pleased you enjoyed it so much, also I felt compelled to friend you, not because you reccd me, which you know is nice and all, but because I read that post about Fraser being someone named Patrick Kelly and the whole Mountie thing being a cover and my jaw hit the floor. I figured anybody who could come up with something so cracked-out had to be someone I'd like.

Did I mention yet how much I love this story? And that the turtle's real name is *Franklin*? Inspired, you are.

And this: It’s like he’s always waiting. Waiting for the day, waiting for the flight, waiting to get there, waiting for Fraser. He didn’t even realize how much he was waiting on Fraser until the day he realized that Fraser was waiting on him. And then he felt kind of bad, because if he was impatient, Fraser must’ve been dying.

just, omg, so good sweetie. Also reminds me of our waiting discussion the other night.*g*

Happy New Year to you too! Wonderful story. As they all said :points up: the details are just delicious. I'm just like Ray the night before a trip. You want to be asleep, you need to sleep, but there's something inside you saying go-go-go. Unfortunately, I've never had Fraser waiting for me at the end of the trip. :g:

Nnnnrgh.

That's about as coherent as I can get at the moment. Because holy jesus batman, I am in love with Ray's naming of his turtle (the last two lines of that scene crack me up like nobody's business) and Ray being impatient and the toe-curling and, well, yeah. Pretty much everything.

And this:

Ray thinks that it isn’t the traveling he hates – it’s the pretending that this isn’t where he wants to be all the time.

makes my heart break into little pieces and makes me want to hug Ray and tell him to stop being stupid and to go live with Fraser.

And I hope you have the happiest happy New Year. :)
