GO Casting!

I have been thinking on Good Omens casting, because, well, because I can, plus it makes writing more interesting. And lo, here's what I've come up with (
fearlessdiva is right, I should consider doing this for a living):
Adam - Max Pirkis (Lord Blakeney, Master and Commander)
Brian - Nicholas Hoult (Marcus, About a Boy)
Pepper - Emily Browning (Violet, Lemony Snicket)
Anathama Device - Kate Winslet
Newt Pulsifier - Christopher Eccleston (Jude, Gone in 60 Seconds)
Shadwell - Sir Ian McKellen (because what is a movie without Sir Ian?)
Aziraphale - Paul Bettany*
Crowley - Julian McMahon**
War - Francesca Annis
Pollution - Rhys Ifans (Rancid Aluminium, Notting Hill)
Death - Samuel L. Jackson***
Famine - Jarvis Cocker
*About the Aziraphale casting I'd like to take credit, but I found this on a friendsfriends thing and it seemed so obvious that I was a bit shocked.
**With regards to the Crowley thing, I had to admit that this casting really stumped me for a bit because I felt firmly that Crowley had to look in his 30s and not in his 20s which knocked out a great amount of pretty talent. I also felt that he needed to be talk, dark and handsome, but not too manly, which sadly ruled out Clive Owen. He also couldn't be too pretty, so again no one like Ioan Gryffund, and he needed to look the part, and well, if you've ever seen Nip/tuck, you know Julian McMahon looks the part.
***Can you think of anybody else who could make Death so distinctive?
****I see there's talk of Johnny Depp being Crowley, but I think of GO as a British book and very much want to keep the cast as British as possible. Okay, Julian McMahon's not British, but at least he's a part of the Commonwealth. The Sam Jackson thing is just me being patronising of myself. Yis.

Date: 2005-01-05 03:05 am (UTC)I've been saying this since I read the fic (before I read the book, naturally.) and just yes. Everyone else has been been shouting about Johnny Depp and that just does not work for me on so many levels. You're absolutely right, Julian McMahon looks the part. I think it's the grin and the sunglasses. lol

Date: 2005-01-05 07:58 am (UTC)Julian McMahon already did the demon thing as Cole in Charmed, and did it finely. :
And then someone goes and mentions Peter Wingfield and it's like, duh, of course!!!
Hmm, distinctive Death... Christopher Walken? or is he too old now? Is Alan Rickman too obvious? Tim Curry?

Date: 2005-01-05 01:43 pm (UTC)Actually, I have another problem with it. I think Julian McMahon is a little too straight evil for it. Paul Bettany can look slightly wicked, which I think works, but Julian McMahon's straight-up baddie material.

Date: 2005-01-05 10:17 pm (UTC)OMG, I *heart* Christopher Eccleston with the fire of a thousand Caribbean suns. Ever since Shallow Grave, man, and then, with the goatee and buzz-cut in Elizabeth, I just ... really wanted to lick him. A lot.
He's fabulous, simply fabulous.
