I'm tired and cranky and frustrated, but [livejournal.com profile] jonem made me all these lovely Thousandth Man icons, so I had to use one today, because I am trying to write the very last section, and there's a part of me that's really surprised I even made it this far. I was starting to think I would never write it. Yeah, anyroad, it struck me the other day that most people probably have no idea that the series is named for the poem by Kipling.

So, here for your edification:

THE THOUSANDTH MAN

One man in a thousand, Solomon says,
Will stick more close than a brother.
And it's worthwhile seeking him half your days
If you find him before the other.

Nine hundred and ninety-nine depend
On what the world sees in you,
But the Thousandth Man will stand your friend
With the whole round world agin you.

'Tis neither promise nor prayer nor show
Will settle the finding for 'ee.
Nine hundred and ninety-nine of 'em go
By your looks, or your acts, or your glory.

But if he finds you and you find him,
The rest of the world don't matter;
For the Thousandth Man will sink or swim
With you in any water.

You can use his purse with no more talk
Than he uses yours for his spendings,
And laugh and meet in your daily walk
As though there had been no lendings.

Nine hundred and ninety-nine of 'em call
For silver and gold in their dealings;
But the Thousandth Man he's worth 'em all,
Because you can show him your feelings.

His wrong's your wrong, and his right's your right,
In season or out of season.
Stand up and back it in all men's sight--
With that for your only reason!

Nine hundred and ninety-nine can't bide
The shame or mocking or laughter,
But the Thousandth Man will stand by your side
To the gallows-foot--and after!

Also, I am looking for the following songs and if anybody could yousendit or help me out I would adore you, like, a whole lot:

D'angelo - Cruisin'
Gomez - Catch Me Up
Radiohead -- The Trickster
Embrace -- Happiness Will Get You in the End
Snow Patrol -- We Can Run Away Now They're All Dead and Gone

Can I just say how much it freaked me out to see my* icon in another post? It was like... oh, hey, look, a post by me. Um. But I didn't post today. Er. ::thinks:: Hey, it could be someone else! Wait, someone else has latched onto the beauty that is Henry Cavill? This can only be good. :)

*yes, I have no claim on the picture, and you've got writing on yours.

I noticed your icon, after sending off the email to [livejournal.com profile] hackthis. I feel like the world's worst plagiarist now, and can only offer up the explanation that we obviously thinkgoogle alike.

There was a similar picture I almost used, but I thought this angle looked best. And you've got to admit, he is eminently icon-able...

Seriously, don't worry about it. I'm not one of those "MY ICON DON'T STEAL OMG I KEEL U!!!!!!!11!!!" people. It's totally okay for two people to have the same icon. Just... takes some closer looking at the friendspage :)

You know, it strikes me that this is a poem that works for Ray and Fraser--but especially Ray--pretty well too.

huh.

Everything in your head is about RayK/Fraser. It's like a disease. A nice disease, but still, we must get you writing in other fandoms. Actually, we just should get you writing period.

*laughs at your icon*

As for the Carla Bruni, someone on my flist introduced me to the fact that she can sing, and I was seriously surprised to see that she actually can sing.

It's quite possibly my favorite poem ever, which is saying a lot as I can't abide poetry.

Hi! Got to your page through a friend of a friend as I was just flisting around, and your link caught my eye. What's so odd is that for the last month or so I've had pieces of The Thousandth Man floating around in my head. I first came across an excerpt of it in an old Trek novel and always thought that was the extent of it, that it was a saying of a few lines tops. So for whatever reason it moved to the front of my brain and lately I've been thinking I should google it or something to lock it down. And now here it is, in its lovely entirety. Many with the thanks!
