* Yesterday was my girl's birthday ([livejournal.com profile] ethrosdemon) and I missed it. I'm sorry, chicken, but you know I was out promoting the cause and what have you. Slytherin pride all the way. Just so you know though, I am working on a special crack story, all for you. ::hugs::

* You know how you're always hearing about how people are bad and evol and out for themselves (which is not necessarily untrue), but it makes me a bit sad that people don't have more faith in each other. Not that I do, but that's not the point. (I never said I was above hypocrisy). The point in all this is that real acts of kindness aren't huge and grandiose. They're small and come from the heart, and for the record, [livejournal.com profile] tarar has got the biggest heart and is just amazing and brilliant and so giving. Wow. I'm honoured just to be in the same fandom as her.

* Many months ago, probably about eight, I was all in a tizzy because I'd seen a billboard for this movie: Friday Night Lights and it had American football players holding hands, and I was like 'Why isn't everybody talking about this film? It's got gay football players! It's like Footballers Wives and Queer as Folk! Only not.'

Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] kattiya informed me that it was not about gay footballers, but just about football in some tiny town, and man, way to burst my bubble. So I thought no more of it -- until a few weeks ago when [livejournal.com profile] kattiya said, dude, you have to see this movie, and I was very cagey because, why would I want to see this movie about American football -- not even the real, good football, but this other stuff?

OMG, people, I fucking *loved* this film. It was smart and brutal and almost made the baby [livejournal.com profile] hackthis cry. And the boys. Sweet Mother of Zeus, the boys. It's like Jailbait Hotness 101. Plus, it's the gayest straight movie ever -- there's comfort and crying and the only thing missing was the sex -- which I am SO going to write.

Winchell/Billingsly/Chavez = OT3.

Watch it. It's not about football, it's about pressure and family and trying to make your own way in the world. It's just -- damn, it's fucking good, I have to buy it.

Moving along, the challenge on [livejournal.com profile] audiography wants people to recommend sexy songs. No not songs about sex, well, they can be, but it's more about tone. You know like Marvin Gaye vs George Michael wanting sex. Okay. Yuck. One is slick the other is just -- well, dodgy. Anyway, go to the comm and drop some songs, or hey, here's an even better idea, cut out the middle man and just give them to me! :D

People are talking about FNL. Okay, when I say people, I really just mean my friend and I. And we may or may not be writing. I actually bought the movie without having seen in and was already shipping Mike/Don. And when I say may or may not be writing, I actually mean having written something.

Actually, there's more fic, but it's all locked cause we're like that. But yeah. Such a great and slashy movie.

Winchell/Billingsley/Chavez = OT3
Yes. Definitely yes.

Hi, I'm the friend who's also writing FNL-fic. It's a tiny fandom right now, but there's always room for more.

I liked Friday Night Lights, too. And I am not afraid to admit I cried. *sniffle* I keep meaning to check out the book on which it is based. It's supposed to be very good. A true story, even.

OMGSOTRUE.

Please write that.

Please.

And yeah, Friday Night Lights? A rockin' good movie, yo. My favorite part was how they didn't overnarrativize it - it was filmed almost like a documentary, and I thought the writing and acting supported that beautifully.

...wow. I saw that movie and loved it, but it never pinged my slashdar and now I'm wondering how I made such an egregious oversight, 'cause, um. Hot.

And my favorite surprise of the movie was that Tim McGraw can actually act, man. Nifty.

Holy overlooking, Batman. I didn't even notice that was McGraw. He was amazing.

Dude, my dad was in the very first graduating class of the high school (Permian - the Permian Panthers, if I remember correctly) featured in that movie. I have his high school class ring somewhere, I think, gold with a black stone, for the panthers, one supposes. He lettered in something but I wasn't football, I don't think, because he was 5'8" and about 100 pounds soaking wet at that point. Maybe it was choir that he lettered in. Could you letter in choir back then? I think he played baseball, too, though he was already a gigging musician in high school; maybe he lettered in baseball.

Anyway, all I remember is him telling stories about how they got their new leather letter jackets and then all piled on top of some souped-up street racing car - yes on the outside - and went hauling ass down the very flat, very straight roads of Midland-Odessa, and then got all pissed off when they all flew off at about 40 miles an hour and got their new jackets all scuffed up. They spent a lot of time drinking and driving at very high speeds, from what I understand. And going to football games, of course. The level of importance that people in that area place on football cannot be overestimated, by the way. They really are completely crazy and obsessed.

I kept meaning to see that movie because of my pop's hometown connection, but I never got around to it. Guess I'll have to put it in the netflix-equivalent queue. Cause if you say it's good, then I'm there.
