WTF is going on?

The Problem

1. I made a comment in makesmewannadie's LJ using a John Lennon icon.

2. The post was made, the icon, well, it was there this morning. And yet, now? This is NOT my icon. I have never even seen it before.

3. Not only that, but in confusion I went looking through my icons. Yeah, there are three icons there that don't belong to me. And yet, there they are.*

4. Naturally, I reckon I've either been hacked or LJ is fucked. So I go over to support/lj_maintenance, where bradfitz says:

Userpic breakage -- I need to do some work that'll involve breaking userpics and other files for a bit. Shouldn't last too long....

5. WTF does that mean?

Is anybody else having this issue? Has support said anything?


* For the record, the icons under 'bitter end', 'out of flippin order' and 'entourage' are the wonky ones, so yeah, if those belong to you, I didn't nick them.

My friend dutch_eowyn had the same problem and she said maintenance explained it wouldn't last long... Can't remember more. Except that while she saw a lot of weirdness in ehr userpics, a lot of us checking for her saw everything as normal.. Maybe it was only 'broken' for people on a certai cluster and users of otehr clusters could see the normal stuff, or something. Weird, in any case.
