Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] sprat!!

1. After sitting on the DVDs for months on end, I finally watched the last episode of season two MI-5/Spooks. I'd waited because I don't know when season three will be available and I like to savor this show. I honestly think it may be the best show I've ever seen for quality of acting and writing and how flipping compelling it is. And, uh, Matthew MacFayden. Sweet Jesus. Anyroad, I finally watched episode ten yesterday, and well, I cried. I don't mean my eyes were damp, I mean I cried. As anyone who knows me will attest, this is pretty fucking monumental. I haven't cried in this century, and yes, we're five years in. I'm one of those people who can count the number of times they've cried on both hands, but this, this was unfuckingbelievable.

2. Many many moons ago, when [livejournal.com profile] ethrosdemon was into Popslash and I was in the corner screaming my head off in consternation and pissiness at being abandoned, she recommended a story to me called Flesh Mechanic, to which, I obviously said, 'Uh, hell no! Never! I'll die first!' But she kept telling me I had to read it, that it wasn't even about it being popslash, to which I again said 'No! Nonononononononono lalalalalalalala I'm not listening [insert Eddie Izzard moment here]' The story was being recommended everywhere, by people I knew and respected, and many who weren't in the fandom, but I was resolute. As anyone who knows her will attest, however, [livejournal.com profile] ethrosdemon can be a persistent bitch when she wants to be, and after about a month of this I caved and read it.

I was fucking blown away.

Not just by the story, but by the detail and the interactive nature of the entire enterprise, because really Flesh Mechanic isn't a story inasmuch as it's an experience, and really, it is quite the experience. I cannot recommend it highly enough, regardless of the fandom. I think anyone and everyone can appreciate the magnitude of the effort, and the success, of what [livejournal.com profile] throughadoor and [livejournal.com profile] lisew did. It totally inspired me to make my stories more engaging with links and art and begging my mates to make sodding business cards.*

In other words, I *highly recommend* reading this piece if you haven't.

*Peeps, you can blame them.

If you can, you should try to get your hands on a copy of Warriors (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119873/). It might look like it's all about Ioan and Damian, but in the end it is Matthew that steals the entire freaking movie. It might not make you cry, but it'll certainly hit you in the gut but good.

I saw that! It was really, well, depressing, but I don't think I understood the full power of Mr MacFayden until MI-5 and then it was so overpowering, I was helpless, or I might've helped it along, like a little. Or a lot. OMGTEHHOTNESS!

I adore that movie. I didn't get his full power until seeing Warriors about three times, but then I was wondering why I had been all about Damian and Ioan. Silly, silly me.

I DL'd season 3 so I have it in AVI files. You interested?

I've been saving season 3 for when I am desperate for new TV. But the end of S2 ripped my guts out, too.

Dude, just give in to the pop. You'll drown in self-loathing, but you'll also get over it, and yeah. Then you get to read Helen's guerilla AU! And- whoo. yeah.

Also, Flesh Mechanic? Totally required reading in a university english course (http://www.arts.yorku.ca/english/calendar/courseTemplate.php?id=4598). Just thought I'd share. :)

I read Flesh Mechanic a couple of days ago, having been recc'd it and also thinking - well, it's popslash? It must be terrible. But no, no. It's very cool, isn't it? Even if you have next to no clue about Justin T. It did make me want to check whether the Univ. York website was real though!

I can see Trade getting into similar territory, what with the business cards and the pretty pictures.

Why am I reccing stuff, or why I am reccing *this* stuff? I love MI-5, you know that. I think it's the most fantastic thing ever. As for 'Flesh Mechanic' I only mentioned it because I actually got a comment on Trade from the author ([livejournal.com profile] throughadoor), who I didn't know was the author at the time. She had mentioned how she'd heard Trade was an interactive story and I mentioned how the detail and interactiveness of 'Flesh Mechanic' had inspired me even though I'd fought reading it every step of the way.
