In light of today's, ahem, issues, I would just like to say that if you feel the urge to give away your money -- for whatever reason -- I have six seven causes/charities right here for people, you know, who could really use it, as opposed to trying to get paid to sit around the house:

Save Darfur and Donations for Niger (World Vision) or through The World Food Programme: Because there are people who don't have the option of opening the refrigerator and finding it packed by mum.

Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation

Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation

PBS (Public Broadcasting System)

Oxfam

Song of the Day: Elbow 'Leaders of the Free World'

But the LEADERS OF THE FREE WORLD are just little boys throwing stones, and its easy to ignore ‘til they’re knocking on the door of your homes

ETA: Free donations! All you have to do is click the box. C'mon, people!

Nah, the real impressive people are the ones running these programmes.

I think the good thing in this is that many of these worthy causes are now being promoted and linked. Every morning, the first thing I do at my computer is click away at the Hunger Site and it's affiliates. I also highly recommend buying from the Hunger Site stores; you are buying fair trade goods and at least 25 cups of food are donated for each item you purchase.

Alex's Lemonade Stand (http://www.alexslemonade.com) is also a worthy foundation, dedicated to beating childhood cancers. It was started by Alexandra Scott, who was diagnosed with cancer very early in her life. She wanted to raise money to help her doctors and then other children like her, and while she died last summer her family has carried on fundraising in her name. It got a lot of press this past year due to its affiliation with the racehorse Afleet Alex, whose owners donate a portion of his winnings every time he makes the top three (which is often).

Thank you for the links.
