something for everyone...

morning to all and sundry, especially to the dark lord,
satan_dot_com, who turned me on to
mafia_dot_com. good times, y'all.
in SV-related stuff - Phalen was in this HBO movie called 'The Tavern' back in 99. it was on the other night, and he didn't look nearly as strung out as he did in 'Rogue' but he looked really oily. it was... odd. question: do y'all think, when lex gets older, he'll be more patrick stewart or ben kingsley?
for the HP people, my new favorite Draco piece - potentially ever - is
ztrin's 'adventures in ice-o'. it's fucking fantastic. it's all about being a little mental. not that i know anything about that.
in the 'that is so fucking cool' news... the cartoon network is bringing back two of the best cartoons ever -- he-man and voltron. you have no idea how fucking excited i am, now if only they weren't on friday night. damn the man!
in the spirit of the something for everyone motif, i'm doing a two-fer type thing...
The Boy with the Thorn in His Side: Smallville
For
blunaris who's not into underage wizards.
Clark read somewhere that it’s impossible to miss what you never had, but he would really like to differ on that opinion. There’s a saber in his hand that he’s trying very hard not to snap in half that would probably like to differ as well.
Phallic symbols to the end; and Lex has given Clark more than anyone else ever has, but that’s not what the pain where his kidneys might be is about.
It’s true that Clark never had Lana, but he certainly spent a lot of time on her: wanting her, thinking that she was ‘the one.’ In his dreams he pined after her, but even in his dreams he never got the girl. It pained him - a lot - and it drove him slightly nuts, but he was never that obsessed. Telescope notwithstanding, he never truly missed her when she wasn’t there. He thought about her, he wondered what she was wearing, what she was doing, if she was missing Whitney. But he never missed *her*. Lex, however, is different, and Clark has always known that.
Lex is worth missing.
Clark remembers reading in National Geographic about Japanese samurai who commit seppuku when they’ve been disgraced, and Buddhist monks who protest by setting themselves on fire. In History, he learned about kamikaze pilots who purposely killed themselves for their country, and right now he feels jealous. Everyone on earth seems to have a way to show their upset, to sacrifice for what they believe and what they want, but Clark can’t do that. Right now he doesn’t feel like *anything* because there’s this pain in his side when he thinks about Lex leaving and there’s a voice that says that this if what missing Lex is like, he’d rather be dead.
Lex hasn’t even left Smallville yet; point in fact, he’s only just driven off in that limousine. Lex hasn’t even made the decision to go, but Clark is missing him already. Clark has a sword in one hand and a power tool in the other, and really, it’s all nothing. He’s got a dry throat and tears that will never fall, but he doesn’t have Lex.
Clark’s already missing what he never had.
The Boy with the Thorn in His Side: Harry Potter
For
ethrosdemon who sees a whole lot of potential.
Noticing Ron’s eyelashes is the sort of thing designed to give Harry a queasy stomach. Not that Harry’s turned off by Ron’s eyelashes, quite the opposite in fact, and that is why today’s roast beef is getting cold. Of all the things about Ron that Harry would have to pick, this *had* to be today’s choice.
Not that Harry seemed to have much say in the matter these days.
Last Monday it was Ron’s fingers, and on Wednesday it was the way he fiddled with the knot in his shoestring. Friday, Harry had *issues* with the way Ron’s hair had grown long enough to curl behind his ears, and on Sunday it was the way he pursed his lips to cool his soup.
The freckle issue, though, never seems to go away. It’s far worse than any sort of Muggle Connect-the-Dots game.
It’s not that Harry’s obsessed as much as he’s just *noticing* Ron. Seeing him in new ways. They’ve been best mates for five years, and Harry knows that Ron writes with his left hand and has a strong predilection for Bernie Botts in Blackberry flavor. Harry could move between his bed and Ron’s bed with his eyes closed and know where exactly to stop so that he doesn’t stub his toe on Ron’s locker.
Those sort of things are a given, they’re innate. The problems, the new things that Harry’s observed have only come up recently: that Ron has beautiful long fingers that he wraps very carefully around his broomstick, and that Ron’s eyelashes are practically golden when they’re under a blue sky – are a different matter altogether. They’re just things Harry’s noticing though, he’s not obsessed.
He knows that Hermione has noticed his behaviour because she poked him in the side when she caught him gawking during Herbology; and she then blocked his view when he might have been mooning over Ron stretched out before the fireplace one night. She doesn’t seem to disapprove, but she doesn’t seem to want to get involved either. Not that Harry can blame her, he’s not sure he wants to either.
He’s not sure what would happen if he *did* say something, if he did do something about the way Ron’s hair drapes across his forehead and the way he sometimes smiles at Harry like he knows what Harry is thinking. After all, there’s no way that Ron can know what Harry’s thinking because Harry doesn’t even know what he’s thinking. Harry’s only *noticing* these things. He’s not obsessed; there’s no pain every time Ron talks to someone else, and he’s certainly not sitting at dinner thinking about how soft Ron’s hair probably feels and how long and slender Ron's neck is.
No, Harry’s not feeling sick at all.

Date: 2002-08-22 01:12 pm (UTC)I personally see Lex leaning toward the Patrick Stewart end of the spectrum, rather than Ben Kingsley.

ah, my girl
Date: 2002-08-22 04:01 pm (UTC)Can Ron blow on my soup? It's split pea. No one else eats it, so I get extra.

You Mary Sue Ron, I'll do Hermione, and we'll write bickering stories.

Love it, babe. Longing and realizations that come too late *sighs*
After this, you can't tell me that you have trouble writing Clark, because I won't believe you. This is brilliant *smooches*
