my partner in crime is off fucking communing with nature. i'm going to fucking kill her, i feel like part of my brain is missing. i should write some long ass series while she's away just to fuck with her head. i'm thinking maybe some HP, unless i get some really good SV ideas. plot bunnies anybody?

speaking of ideas, please read 'elysium' by [livejournal.com profile] evil_man. he's a lazy fucker, but he writes beautifully when he wants to.

i also present these three drabbles for your consideration.

I am what I am, and that’s all that I am.

HP: On Being a Slytherin

Marcus has never tried to be the smartest boy in his year, because really, there’s no point. He hasn’t got the brains and he knows it, so why waste all that time and parchment? Brains may be fine and good for spineless Hufflefluffs and boot-licking Ravenbores, but Slytherins don’t need to have brain smarts – as long as they have other smarts.

Marcus knows that being a good Slytherin isn’t about book knowledge, it’s about using common sense. It’s about using that one brain cell to the advantage of *their* good.

Being a Slytherin is about knowing who to blame, who to bribe, and who to blow. They excel outside the classroom, doing well *inside* one isn’t nearly as important, even Marcus’ father believes this. That’s why Marcus got a new broom after failing Arithmancy but got soundly boxed when he lost the House Cup.

Not that Marcus doesn’t understand the reasoning. After all, Slytherins are good at lots of things, and it’s far more important to be a good Slytherin than to be a good student. No one will remember Marcus’ marks in five years, but they’ll remember what house he was in. What he learned. How to act, how to behave, and the unofficial Slytherin motto: above all else, whatever you do, don’t get caught.

No one could ever accuse a Slytherin of not being dedicated – all right, so Marcus’s dedication put Wood in the Infirmary, but it was all in the name of house pride. And yes, Marcus is certainly proud to be a Slytherin because what other house prizes manipulation over honesty and the end result over the methods used?

Being a Slytherin isn’t for everyone, but it’s certainly right for a select few. To the manor born and all that, besides Marcus could never be a Gryffindor. They’re too noble, too honest, and Marcus could never be all those things; because then he might have to admit that he liked Wood rather than simply beating in his head every time the thought crossed his mind - and that would never do.

SV: On Being Great
for [livejournal.com profile] andariell

Some people are born great, but Clark has no desire to be great. He’d settle quite happily for being normal. Let Lex be great and rule the world, Clark would be more than happy going to bargain matinees and eating ramen out of the pot. Clark doesn’t need a wall full of DVDs and gold plated spoons, and even Lex knows that the money isn’t what will make him great in the end. And Clark would be more than willing to help Lex be as great as he wants to be, as long as he doesn’t have to share the limelight.

Only one great person per household, and Clark would be more than happy if he never developed another power. He wouldn’t spend nights worrying the edge of frayed sheets if he conveniently lost his ability to see through walls. If all his *gifts* just disappeared one day, Clark wouldn’t go turning over any rocks to find them. He’d miss the strength, and he’d probably have separation anxiety from the loss of his superspeed, but really, if he could be normal again he’d take it in a heartbeat.

Being normal would be great, because then Clark wouldn’t have to *be* great. Then Clark could be like everyone else, and he wouldn’t get stuck on the ceiling every time he had a wet dream about Lex or Lana or Chloe or whomever. If Clark wasn’t going to be great then maybe his dad would let up on all his responsibilities and his gifts; and Clark could go back and try out for the football not being run by the Coach Combustible.

But those are just dreams, not the actuality; and Clark doesn’t want to be great, but he knows he doesn’t have much choice.

Some people have greatness thrust upon them.

HP: On Being a Romantic

Hatred is just is tiring as love, and sadly it has fewer benefits. Of course there’s always that telltale rush of blood to the head, but it happens so often that Draco could be forgiven for misunderstanding his feelings toward Potter.

Less confusion more denial.

Hatred and love, love and hatred, really, they’re both useless. Neither one ever seems to get much accomplished beyond mass destruction and heartache, and Draco has always prided himself on his pragmatism - his ability to cut his losses and to know when to leave. To know exactly what is a bad idea and why.

Giving Harry Potter anything that could be construed as a token of affection rather than a poisoned dart would be an extraordinarily bad idea. Besides, Draco would never do something like that. He would never send Harry a birthday present because that would mean that he was actually *thinking* about Potter and his birthday – July 31 according to the Daily Prophet – and that would be a romantic gesture. A foolish notion, like remembering the first time that he saw Potter in his robes in front of the Great Hall, luminescent spectacles and mussed hair included. It would be a romantic notion, and Draco is *not* a romantic.

Draco’s not in love; he’s not confused.

Romance is for people who believe in love, people like Potter. Draco doesn’t believe in love, he doesn’t believe in romance, but he does believe in Potter -sadly enough.

Romance and love and hate are all words, they’re all abstract ideas that only get their power from the belief that people grant to them. Draco doesn’t believe in love, but he does believe in power and magic and he’s wise enough to know that love has a magic all its own.

That can be the only reason that he wants to send Harry Potter a birthday gift.

You may be without a partner in crime at the moment, but would you care for a cheap thug you can boss around as a minion?

Nub, nub, nub all three drabbles. Beautiful little windows letting us peek into the inner lives of the boys for just a moment before the shades are drawn.

M/O, O/P, P/M and all derivations there of are my new favorite toy. i'm completely fascinated by the dysfunction they could create together.

Aw, Clark's angsting!

And he looks so pretty while he does it!

Lovely piece, m'dear. And it's *true*--usually, when shows do the "superhero loses his/her powers" thing, we get to see how much said superhero *misses* those powers, even if it takes him/her a while to realize it. Not so Clark, though; sure, he didn't seem thrilled with the getting-injured parts of normalcy, but for the most part? He could've happily continued on *being* normal. I like how you tapped into that here.

And your last line is lovely..

*sigh* You rock. More specifically...

1. Perfect Marcus, and I loved the subtle M/O.

...what other house prizes manipulation over honesty and the end result over the methods used?

Ack! Yes! Exactly! Well said.

2. Just lovely. I like the overall theme, but it's the little bits that get me- turning over rocks to find his powers, Coach Combustible, wet dreams about Lex, Lana, and Chloe (::cough:: at once?). This is Clark, totally.

3. I just love the way you write Draco.

...like remembering the first time that he saw Potter in his robes in front of the Great Hall, luminescent spectacles and mussed hair included.

Oh. That's just beautiful.

Draco doesn’t believe in love, he doesn’t believe in romance, but he does believe in Potter -sadly enough.

::cries:: How do you do this? How are you so damn good at this? I just. This is great. Fantastic, wonderful, lovely, etc.

doooode
