ETA: Guess who is touring? RADIOHEAD, BITCHES! *thanks to [livejournal.com profile] literaryll for ruining everyone else's life until I see them.

[livejournal.com profile] calikali has thrown down the Frankenstein Mix for this month, so here you are from me to you.

The I Blew It Mix

1. A song you would use to pump up a sports arena. -- Earlimart 'We Drink on the Job' – Show me a sport where you don't get drunk at the matches, and I'll show you a boring-ass sport. Hell, even in cricket you can knock a few back during tea breaks.

2. A song you dance to when you're alone. Garou' You Can Leave Your Hat On' – I have no idea what it is about that song that makes me imitate a stripper whenever it comes on, it must be the trumpets, or Garou's growling. But yeah, this makes me get up and go every time. Beware: this song may lead to whiplash.

3. A song that makes you drive faster. U2 'Fast Cars' – Ha ha ha ha. It's a joke, right, a song that makes you drive faster is called 'Fast Car.' C'mon people, work with me. I'm stressed, dammit. Here, you want a song that really puts other people's lives in danger? The Clash 'Police on My Back'

4. A song with a title that ends in n. -- Duke Ellington 'Take the 'A' Train' – There should be a greater appreciation for jazz in the world, I'm just saying. I'm not talking about the jazz snobs that put everyone off, I'm just taking about 'appreciation.' People malign jazz because it's not the blues, because there aren't any lyrics to yell at the top of your lungs, because there are no teeth-jarring guitars, but you don't need all that shit to make a good song you know. Here have some of my favorite jazz musician, Stan Getz, on the house: Stan & Chet Baker (so OTP) 'The Way You Look Tonight'

5. A song you completely misunderstood the first time you heard it. Spacehog 'In the Meantime' –- It is my suspicion that some of you lot couldn't even write your names when this song was big ('95, not '93, oops), but I've always enjoyed it for one reason or another. And yes, this is that One Hit Wonder who is married to Liv Tyler.

6. A song you only like half of the time. Common 'The Light' – I don't like Common as an artist very much, there's something about his rhymes that annoys me, but I like this song, except for sometimes when I realise that I don't like him. Maybe he's just too arty for my taste.

7. A song that mentions gambling. You would not fucking believe how hard it is to find a song about gambling that's not Kenny Rogers' 'The Gambler' – I'm just saying. I would've given you that one, but I don't even have it. And then I realised gambling doesn't need a literal interpretation, and what's a bigger gamble than shoplifting?! Jane's Addiction 'Been Caught Stealing'. I remember the first time I saw this video and immediately thinking 'I have no idea what the fuck is going on here, but it's funny as hell.'

8. A song that could inspire a novel. -- Jeff Buckley 'Mojo Pin' (live at Sin'e) – Jeff says this song is about a dream. Everytime I hear this song, I want to write an original story about a prostitute, getting off heroin, and trying to make good. That's a novel no? Mirror here

9. An educational song. Prince 'Sign O' the Times' -- The first time I heard this song, I don't think I actually knew everything Prince was talking about. I mean I knew about the needles and AIDS, I knew about the hurricanes, but the line Now he's doing horse, it's June had to be the first time I'd heard anyone call heroin horse. Not really the education your parents want for you, but better to learn it here than on the street.

10. A song you know is a cover song, but for which you've never heard the original. Johnny Cash 'Hurt' – No list is complete without either Johnny Cash, Al Green or Jeff Buckley. I have two out of three here.

11. A song that made you cry shamelessly when it was used on a TV show. -- I don't cry, so, uh, here, have something that if I did cry, would do the job every time. I discovered this song six years ago, when Napster was free, Ryan was good, and I swore I would make everyone I know listen to it. If I haven't made you listen to it before, or you've never seen it on this LJ, you're probably a newbie. Ryan Adams 'Come Pick Me Up'. Mirror here.

12. A song you wish TPTB would use on a TV show. Secret Machines 'Sad and Lonely' – For a song that's about being depressed this is a decidedly upbeat song, and there's something about it that I find rather uplifting. Should not be confused with their new single 'Alone, Stoned and Jealous' which I like for the title alone.

*As always the zips have extra junk that I just felt like throwing in.
