1. [livejournal.com profile] sparky77 wrote Heroes fic, but not just any fic, because The Terminal Velocity of Spit is about Nathan and Peter and jealousy and family and also, um, George Clooney. I can hear you all complaining, "here we go with the fandom meshing again," "I hate Nathan… he's the Anti-Christ" blah blah blah. Stuff it, and trust me on this one. This is really about Nathan and Peter and it's so gorgeous and understated and right about who they are.

2. [livejournal.com profile] them0rgue has written more Matt/Landry fic for the Friday Night Lights people. I know everybody's all Matt/Julie! CoachHotass! Jason/Tim! Hell, even the author says A Little Bit of Paint-by-Numbers is Matt Gen, but it's not even about the pairing as much as it's about the undercurrent of friendship and wanting to be with people who understand you and can relate to you. I can see already that [livejournal.com profile] them0rgue has some Saracen hotline on her batphone or something.

3. The November Frankenstein Mix is ready. I am totally rocking my poll.

The Let the Music Play Mix
The Let the Music Play Mix

1. A song for seduction -- Joe Purdy 'Trouble' – You know, there are a lot of songs called 'Trouble' -– Coldplay had one on Parachutes, Ray LaMontagne's first single was 'Trouble', and you'd think hey, maybe calling somebody Trouble isn't the best way to seduce them. I think you'd really be wrong, because ultimately true seduction isn't about sex and stripteases, it happens in the mind. So, what's more seductive than somebody admitting they know you're probably going to break their heart, but they want you so badly it doesn't even matter?

2. A song for succor -- Gomez 'Hamoa Beach' – Succor. A noun. 'Assistance in a time of difficulty.' Yes, well, what's more difficult than when your friends are breaking up, and you never liked your friend's significant other, and all you can think is "OMG, please don't punk out now!" Yes, that's what this song is about.

3. A song of lustration -- Prince 'I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man' –- Just like [livejournal.com profile] musesfool I had to look up what 'lustration' meant, because by the root, I totally thought it was about sex. It's not. So, even having Prince here is a red herring of sorts, because lustration isn't about lust it's about purification, and what's more purifying than someone turning you down so you have to go home and take a cold shower? This is one of my favorite Prince songs ever.

4. A song of quietude -- Oasis 'The Importance of Being Idle' -- Ultimately the title says it all. Oasis started with a bang, shone brightly for a bit, dulled down with excess and beer belly, and are now back and slowly trimming the fat away. This single exemplifies a lot of what people loved about them in the beginning: the 'go fuck yourself, because I rock no matter who I am or how much money I make' attitude.

5. A song with moxie -- Madonna 'Express Yourself' –- Poor Madonna, she hasn't had a good album since Ray of Light, she's getting older despite her 27 hour-a-day exercise regime, and now people are questioning her two-million dollar adoption, because hey, there are plenty of kids in the US who could totally benefit from being adopted too. I digress. This song is awesome with the moxie, because really, "You deserve the best in life, so if the time isn't right then move on/ Second best is never enough, you'll do much better, baby, on your own."

6. A song for detox -- Hot Hot Heat 'Oh, Goddammit' –- [livejournal.com profile] slodwick and [livejournal.com profile] scrunchy introduced me to this song via the Chasing Sheppard soundtrack, and oh my god, it says so much about how you feel when you're detoxing, you hate everyone and everything and nothing you say is the right thing, and you're just like DAMMIT! ETA: It's not Get Set Go, my bad.

7. A song for a safari -- Ray LaMontagne 'Three More Days' –- Ray LaMontangue has this voice like, well, kind of like really good tantric sex. It's all gravelly and languid and you're just like 'Yurrrrr.' He's one of those guys where less is more. He's also one of those guys who seems a lot stronger when you hear his stuff in segments instead of all together. Damien Rice is like that too, IMO.

8. A song for bitching -- Scissor Sisters 'I Don't Feel Like Dancin' –- I'm not a fan of Scissor Sisters, but they have catchy songs. Oh, fuck it, who am I kidding? This isn't just catchy, this is fucking chronic (in both senses of the word). If you don't dance to this song you might be dead.

9. A song for sleeping -- Fiona Apple 'Sleep to Dream' -– Ah Fiona. Yeah, that's all I can say, "Ah, Fiona."

I've had to learn not to listen to it during my commute, because I always wind up bopping. And if I'm lucky? I stop myself *before* the disco spin.

I was at a non-dancing function yesterday and they played that and I was all 'ohhh, here we go.'

Yaye! It goes without saying that I'm stealing all of these.

Except hmm. The Ray LaMontagne won't work for me.

"Oh, Goddammit" is by Hot Hot Heat.

When I asked a friend to introduce me to Prince, that's the song she gave me. And it worked.

But but the song says -- yes, okay, I will change it now. See what happens when you trust other people! It's like playing telephone!

Wow, okay, the fault is 100% mine, it even says it's by HHH in my listing, I guess I was determined to make it by Get Set Go.

People complain about fandom meshing? Why? Why would they do that?

In my happy place, all fandoms frolick together in perfect happiness, and they frequently mesh in the dirtiest, wrongest ways possible, and they like it. And if they don't like it, they get sent to the corner to think about what they've done.

And thanks so much for the kind words about the story. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Your Nathan love was a huge inspiration :)

My sentiments exactly!

What a lovely thing to say! I have to say I was really blown away by how awesome the story is, because George is there, right, but it's totally not about him, it's about them and their dirty!wrong!bad! attraction to each other. The subtext made my screen smoke. It's like an awesome birthday present that wasn't even for me. And yes, Nathan is THE BESTEST!

Thanks so much for the rec! What a nice end to the week. I'm really just trying to get the minor character love out there, you know? My pocket-Saracen is quite pleased as well.

Also, way to make the leazy feel guilty by going and getting shit (http://hackthis.livejournal.com/413333.html) done (http://hackthis.livejournal.com/413882.html). Jesus. Is nothing sacred?

I'm bookmarking the other fic to read later this weekend as a treat.

You are very welcome! I am truly enjoying your FNL fic and am a strong proponent of all minor character love. As for the productivity I assure you this is rather out-of-character for me, but I'm going with it.

Re: Prince 'I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man' –- I have always loved this song. It's catchy and fascinating, and I seem to have a habit of getting turned on by guys telling me why they don't want to sleep with me... (er. that may be TMI). The point of this little prattle, is that I adore Jordan Knight's cover of this song. It is the only Prince song performed by someone else that I have ever preferred over the original.

(TLC performing If I was Your Girlfriend - wtf? - It doesn't even make sense)

I was young when that album came out, I didn't even know until years later that it was a cover and that explained a lot of my confusion. I mentioned in a post I made a while ago, that Prince is responsible for a lot of hits, just by virtue of being covered so much. What cracks me up is that he doesn't even LIKE being covered, but that never stopped anybody from earning $$.

Came for the Heroes fic rec via a link from a newsletter, ended up taking like five of the songs because of your descriptions. I may end up using "Hamoa Beach" on a mix CD of my own for an RL friend, if I like it, because I really like your description of it.

LJ WON'T LET ME POST!

Seriously, I keep trying to post that I nabbed your zip file, but it tells me your entry doesn't exist and whatnot. I TELL IT YOU DO EXIST, but it laughs at me!
