Recs, music, babble -- the usual

1. Last night were the Grammys. I read the paper (they back up on me a lot) while they were on except for whenever the Dixie Chicks were mentioned -– then I looked for Adrian Pasdar, because was there some other reason to watch it? -– it only took two hours of suffering. Wow, is that a hot man. *deep breath* My depravity knows no depths when it comes sharp-dressed men. Just saying. I could stand some stills if anybody happens to have them. Again, just saying.
Sidebar: If you can find me Grammy mp3's of Gnarls doing Crazy or the Dixie Chicks singing their song, I'll give you a cookie.
2.
thepouncer has informed me that Kitchen Confidential is coming out on DVD! This is not unlike informing me that Adrian Pasdar is in my house and I should just go home now.
3. A couple Heroes recs before tonight...
4. Once again, it's time forFree Music,
calikali's Frankenmix!:
1. A song for new beginnings (January) -- The Ashtray Hearts 'Valentine' -- Last year
vylit introduced me to The Ashtray Hearts in a music post she made and I listened to this song and it pinged me badly somewhere. That doesn't happen often. I kept it, forgot about it, and then recently it popped back up and now I'm pretty much obsessed. A song about selling cars and keeping names and getting over it, even when you think you won't.
2. A song for love (February) -- Ryan Adams 'Hallelujah' -- I'm not a lover, I'm a fighter. I admit it; my exes will confirm it; there are some people who can make the needed concessions to be in love, and then there are people like me who try but just fall a little short in the end.
3. A song for storms (March) -- The Weepies 'The World Spins Madly On' -- This is a song for the day when you're depressed and don't want to get out of bed and don’t understand why the world won't stop when you want it to –- think of it as an internal storm song.
4. A song for restoration (April) -- Amy Winehouse 'Rehab' – I've been meaning to talk to you lot about Amy Winehouse for a while now. Prolly since last year, but you know, backlog on music is good for you guys because it means I have lots of things to share with you like tiny, English, recovering, not-anorexic, not-alcoholics with voices the size of small countries. This is a song about what happens when your management company wants you to go to rehab and you tell them to fuck off. Try it.
5. A song for remembering (May) -- Pink 'The One That Got Away' -- I fucking love Pink. I think she is awesome. She rocks, she rolls, she curses and is always herself. This is a quieter song, which you might not expect for her, but I totally recommend it for that reason, because everybody fucks up at least once.
6. A wedding song (June) -- Stevie Wonder 'For Once in My Life' -- I highly doubt that people who can't commit should be picking out wedding songs, and then I came across this song which is the theme song for Ari and Mrs Ari and was like 'If his ass can do it, so can mine.'
7. A song for independence (July) -- Ben Folds Five 'Song for the Dumped -- You all are lucky, I was totally going to put 'Landed' here and then you could all be, 'Fucking hell, is she still pimping that same song?' Look! It's variety! And give me my money back, you bitch!
8. A song for reaping (August) -- James Morrison 'The Pieces Don't Fit Anymore -- People in the UK are probably about to choke on James Morrison overload – so, this is for everyone else. If you loved 'Under the Influence' from the Slodthis soundtrack, then you want this. A song about not getting what you give and wanting more in return.
9. A song for labour (September) -- Whiskeytown 'Everything I Do -- Some of you will know this as a Friday Night Lights song, some of you will know this as what one band Ryan was in before he went solo and got eaten alive by his ego, forget all that and just enjoy the song.
10. A creepy song (October) -- Sufjan Stevens 'They Are Night Zombies!! They Are Neighbors!! They Have Come Back From The Dead!! Ahhhh!' -- Hands down my favorite Sufjan song, which has chanting and choral singers, and is just pretty damn awesome as the name alone will attest.
11. A song for thanksgiving (November) -- U2 'One' -- -- I'm sorry does this song need an introduction? Are there people who've never heard it before? Infidels, the lot of you. This was my introduction to U2 17 years ago and it hasn't aged a day.
12. A song for a funeral (December) -- Jeff Buckley 'Satisfied Mind' -- When I die, which will hopefully not be for at least another 40-50 years, I want this played at my funeral. And then I want everyone to get shit-faced.
*Zip can be found here.
ETA: It's entirely possible that some of these songs are discards from 'Under the Influence of You.' Just saying.

3. A couple Heroes recs before tonight...
a. The Story of Nothing byjust_katarin, which a) is absolutely astounding b) has spoilers for 1.14 c) is most definitely Petrellicest, amongst other things d) is definitely not for the faint of heart or easily troubled, because I read it three days ago and still feel a bit screwed over in the head
b. On Friday I wrote Wee!Peter and ducks. Apparentlyslodwick translated this as 'Plz to find pictures of said Wee!Peter (and Wee!Nathan!!) and write snippets to make
hackthis all hormonal. Misson accomplished in spades.
c. Last weeksparky77 wrote Five Facts Ando Learned as Part of His Epic Quest to Help Save the World, which is Ando and Hiro and Peter and Nathan (and also Peter/Nathan and Nathan & Hiro and Hiro and everybody and okay, I'll stop spazzing now ). This starts off a little slow, a little misleadingly, you're thinking it's sort of a landscaping piece, and then she goes and stabs you in heart with these basic truths that just –- every hero needs a sidekick, y'all.
