I posted a wee!Peter & Nathan story yesterday for you lot, which El Jay promptly ate, because she's a disagreeable, moody bitch, especially on V Day. Life is a One-Way Street, and If You Could Paint it, I'd Draw Myself Going in the Right Direction has art and adorable-ness and whatnot.

Also, big, huge, enormous love to rageprufrock for running the superb fandom-wide 14valentines Challenge and doing it with style and class. That's not easy, my hat's off to both of you -- and also To My Flist: because you are awesome, and entertaining, and smart, and wicked funny, and every day you make my life a little brighter.

I'm still not sure how I feel about last night's FNL. Some of it was mad awesome. Some of it made me cringe (in that, oh, that's a little too close to RL way). Most of it was entirely too real.

What parts made you cringe? I was really pleased with it - but then, I'm stupidly prejuidiced when it comes to FNL. Especially when it comes to Landry trying to chat up Tyra. That was TOTAL love. I think he must be hoping for a threesome.

Sorry baby, I meant cringe in the 'that's a little too close to RL way' -- specifically the bit at the end where there cops pulled over the entire school bus. I know they were trying to 'redeem' Mac, which truly, whatever, IMO he should've been sacked. Yes, I thought they handed that sort of engrained ideology well, but he still should've been sacked -- but just that sort of ominous feeling made all the hairs on my arms stand up. It made me feel a little ill. Landry = FIFTY KINDS OF AWESOME THOUGH. His social skills are so -- I am going to write him. Very soon. I haven't forgotten about the Herc bonding I just don't have the time to devote to the story that I need to.

Ah, that makes sense, then. And it COMPLETELY true. I've been in situations like that growing up & yes, it was played perfectly.

Me, I like Mac. Yes, he said some retarded shit, but I kinda like how old-school & hard-ass he is. And yes, I do think he should have been fired, but not to placate the players. That's way too much power to give to a bunch of teenagers who wouldn't know what to do with it, y'know? I think maybe after the season's over, that's the time to discuss it.

Landry will forever rule, AMEN. (And no rush, hon, whenever you get to it, it'll be awesome. *g*)

There were bits of FNL that made me cringe as well. They kind of justified the soft-edged racism that Mac stood for when they made him the 'good guy' in Dunston. "They made a mistake"? What kind of excuse is that, for them or him? And I was really disappointed in Coach T for not doing the right thing.

On the other hand, Smash trying to do the right thing, Tyra, Mrs. Coach and Matt and Julie were made of awesomecakes, so that somewhat makes up for it.

The thing I like most about FNL is the care and restraint of the writers. Each character has redeeming qualities, and the writers give you glimpses of this despite the abhorrent things that are done.

And it does seem real, and human, and open to interpretation (as are real life situations). I'm with you on the cringing, but I'm glad the writers opened those doors.
