Yesterday, on NPR, there was a guy talking about the chicken that he used to keep on top of his refrigerator (a live chicken) and how he used to feed it corn nibblets. Even though he was only making $50 a week, he was spending $10 on corn nibblets for the chicken. He also said that he used to eat chicken in front of the chicken, and that the chicken saw him naked. He said he'd always figured he would just eat the chicken one day, but I don't recall what he said about what happened to the chicken, because it wasn't that. Did anybody else hear this programme? How did he get the chicken in the first place?

I have been super busy with RL recently, so, if I missed something important please let me know.

For example, Shia looking so fucking hot that I need new knickers? That's important. If someone (*cough[livejournal.com profile] slodwickand[livejournal.com profile] sameoldhopecough*) felt compelled to make me some Shia icons (especially the ones at the bottom from his day off) I might feel compelled to drabble (*coughMSTSMFcough*) them some stuff at their request.

Also, does anybody have the Samsung SCH-u740? How's it working out for you? I'm in the market for a new phone (noCrackberries![livejournal.com profile] antheia) and I want one with a keypad.

Also, I am in the market for a Mad Men beta, can anybody offer their services in that fandom?

Pft, fine! Just 'cos I actually did the research and picked a highly rated phone, doesn't mean anything! *wanders off, hurt*

LOL. I know you did, puddin, but I don't need that much phone. I need that much man, but not that much phone. I need something with a keypad and strong signal.

Yes, ma'am. Have you got a phone like that?

Sadly, the phone that I *used* to have like that, they don't make anymore. I hear good things about TREOs, though.

It was on This American Life (show #116: Poultry Slam) -- Jonathan Gold was the guy, and the chicken was part of a performance art piece. Sadly, I don't think they ever explicitly say what happened to the chicken. (Nibblets!)

I came in at the nibblets part and pretty much laughed myself stupid all they way to brunch, when they were talking about Mitterand's Last Meal and eating the orkeny bones, which EW.

Yeahhhhh. Big with the ew. I'm not really a fan of their Thanksgiving shows, to be honest, but I still recommend TAL with all my heart, because their shows are so often hilarious/heartwarming/interesting. :)

It's broadcast weekly -- I believe it airs on Friday nights in Chicago, where it's produced. We get it on Saturdays, and repeated on Sundays here, but I generally listen via podcast at work.

You can also listen to their entire archive via their website.

If a Chuck vid doesn't win this time around, I'm sure I'll do one in Jan or Feb (Valentine's Day!) anyway.

Also, I have a sidekick, which I love. It's said to have the best keyboard of any pda-style phones. In the last month I've triedf a Blackberry curve and the tmobile wing and sprint mogul and I haven't liked the OS or keyboard on any of them at *all*.

I've been using handheld-pda-phone things since the winter of 2001, and imho, the most important factor is how the device feels in your hands. If it isn't supercomfortable to you, you won't love it, and you need to love it for it to work for you.

Sidekick question

From: [identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com
How much are you shelling out for plans and the like? Presumably you have to buy like a minutes plan and a data plan or a Lost in Translation plan or whatever, so how much per month is your Sidekick costing you?

Sorry about the multiple edits! They seem to have a special promo thing now with the new LX - 1500 anytime minutes (http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/plans/detail.aspx?tp=tb1&id=dfe6c2b1-70e2-485f-9db6-ad229476dd6d) for just under $40 and then you add on unlimited sidekick usage for $20. I have an older plan which has no phone minutes, and unlimited sidekick usage, for $35, but that's not available at the moment. The promo one is cheaper than pretty much any Blackberry plan I've seen recently.

Or you can get it with no phone minutes and unlimited Sidekick usage for just under $30. I think I need to call and get my own plan tweaked...

To get this you just call T-Mobile Business Direct at 866-464-8662, optoin #3. Tell them you want the Sidekick Slide associated with promotional code "PDA Advantage". In order to qualify you must be starting a new line (whether family or individual). You can add a line to a family plan for just $9.99.

The T-Mobile Sidekick Slide will be $49.99 - $50.00 mail-in rebate = FREE after rebate.

Also: free activation, free shipping. 1 year contract. The regular price is $199.99 after rebate. This is a great deal!

They had problems with the slide about a month ago where the battery wasn't connecting, so this might be how they're trying to drum up good PR for the Improved one?

How did he get the chicken in the first place?

To my mind, this is not the most important question. The most important question is: WHY was he on NPR in the first place?

I have no idea, but let me tell you the whole segement was priceless. After talking about the chicken, he then talked about going for Korean food and eating live prawns that had only had the exoskeleton removed, so it still had eyes and a head and could SEE him eating it. Crazy yo. Really crazy.

Are you looking for a cell phone or a pda? Cause my friend has the Samsung SCH-u740, but I got the enV (Verizon) cause the u740 just had too funky a layout for me. The enV is a regular cell phone upfront, but has a full QWERTY keyboard when you flip it open. Nice sized color screens too (front and inside). I also was thinking of getting the Q, but then I realized that I didn't really need the whole pda thing, just the keyboard (especially when the data plans are so gods-awful expensive).

Yeah, I really just want the keyboard functionality. So, tell me about the enV? Is that the Verizon iPhone killer?

No that would be the Voyager. Voyager is like the enV, only with a touch screen. I read a review that called it "the enV version 1.5" cause it's got the same functionality of the enV only with a touch screen. I soooo want one of those... but they're like $300 (and i think that includes the $50 new customer rebate) which is about the same price as an iPhone, and it has the actual keyboard where the iPhone doesn't, but it's still alot of money for me to pay for a cell phone. And once the Voyager came out the enV got real inexpensive.

I went all out and got the plan that lets me do IMs (AOL, yahell and *shudder* msn messenger are the main services), texts, mobile email, and everything, and so far I haven't put the phone down.
