Now that I have slept on my initial Kings squee, my non-spoilery thoughts are as follows:

I'm not a Jack fan. I find him tiresome. I can see how the actor was on Gossip Girl, and I do not mean that favorably. He's going to have to work much harder if he thinks I'm giving him David EVER. I'm no longer interested in pairings where I only love one side and think the other person is an unworthy tosser* (Lex/Clark, Draco/Harry).

* And I say this knowing exactly how this storyline is supposed to go. Right now this actor is failing in convincing me that what is supposed to come will be potrayed effectively.

Rev Samuels, Silas and David though? LOVE 'EM. Like hardcore, pet incessantly love. Rev Samuels/David? Yes. Silas/Rev Samuels back in the day? DOUBLE YES.

You can holler at me in the comments if you want to discuss my spoilery thoughts though.

ETA Does anybody have a copy of Lisa Hannigan's 'Sea Sew' or the new Doves 'Kingdom of Rust'? I am totally in the market here.

ETA#2: I have been running around calling Reverend Samuels Reverend Walker, I don't know why. More importantly, why didn't anybody tell me I had it wrong?! Y'all are failing on me. I bet you'd let me go out with my skirt in my knickers too. More fail. Seriously, though, why did I think his name was Rev Walker? Did we even HAVE a Rev Walker? I can only assume that the hotassery fried my brain.

I'm not sure the Reverend is supposed to be quite this ridiculously hot and have chemistry with just about everyone. Because I'm sure my reaction to him touching David's face was not supposed to be *guh, melty* or when he cut ties with Silas "omg sex now! look there is a convenient wall!".

I do like Jack, though. I think he makes for a great Draco Malfoy-esque character and I want to see him grow.

Actually, the only one I didn't care for much was the CEO type that Silas sold is sister to. I really can't see him facing down Silas and coming out on top.

When the Reverend touched David in the garage... see, even typing out the scene sounds wrong. When he touched his forehead! His forehead! Ahem. Anyway. That was hot. That's all I'm trying to say. And then he gave him his watch and David kept it through two years at war? Uh, when was the last time you saw a soldier with a watch like that? Did he pull a Pulp Fiction and keep it up his backside the entire time?

I think Jack is someone that's going to have to be fleshed out a lot or I'm just going to keep thinking, hell no. Brother-in-law is WEAK. Silas could have him as a starter before breakfast, and people don't even have starters for breakfast.

I know, logically, that they set the garage scene up as a religious blessing, but dude, I'll believe that if the religion is gay porn. It doesn't exactly make it easier that Walker's character was always my favorite in OZ and thinking of OZ always brings up the gay sex.

Now the watch thing could have slightly paternal over-tones, and I'm sure that's what they meant, but seriously, keeping something that is only barely disguised jewelry for two years is either some epic case of "this hot guy gave this to me and promised me a kingdom" or ... no, really, that's the only explanation. A fuck trophy. Ahem.

I think even putting weak-ass banker in a possible alliance with Jack is like taking your two weakest characters and seeing if they can reproduce and make something that is so weak, it'll spontaneously evaporate. I'm really hoping Jack will come out on top (and be the gayest King of my heart[I can hope! Unless the BBC make Arthur gay]), but with TV and the world as it is, I'm not holding my breath. Because that would end in death.

Exactly, I know the scene was a blessing, the smear, the movement of his thumb, I know what they were aiming for, but uhhhhhhh. I mean COME ON! I want to know where the missing sex scene is.

I hope that they do more with Jack. AfterElton had an article about the character and how they're worried that he's falling into certain cliches and that he'll just be a villain, and I don't want that to happen! I hope that he does develop a friendship with David, too - if they don't let that happen and the sister is supposed to be the replacement, I'm going to be upset.

Is it next Sunday yet?

OMG! Next Sunday now, please! (Where did you get your icon? I needs one!)

Ahem, where was I? Oh, right, Jack. That needs to be addressed, fixed and fleshed out stat. Biblically Jack (Jonathan) was David's closest advisor, but right now? I know they want their character to be 'redeemed' by his love for David, which I am all for, but he really does need some redeeming right now. Like stat.

I have committed fic. I think you're on the lock. It is about Jack, because Jonathan is like my favourite character ever in the Bible and Jack would really have to fuck up for me to hate him (also I watch GG) but I think I may be heading toward Benjamincest with David in the middle *facepalms*

a) Where are you getting your Kings icons?

b) And you know this, man. I mean the way they were in each other's space and the way Silas was all, "what do you mean God doesn't approve?" That totally implied, "He approved before, when we were screwing all the time, but now he's unphappy? What? Is this because I wouldn't let you top last time?"

You know those are two serious alpha males, and everything has to be a debate.

Just watched this on Hulu. I have to say that my initial reaction re Jack/David is the opposite of yours. I think that Jack is too good for David at the moment, or rather, more complex than David can handle. Of course, this could be a reflection of my opinion of the actors' skills (I mean, I give huge props to Sebastian Stan for standing up to Ian McShane's fierceness in their scene together).

But I'm totally with you on the hotness of Reverend Samuels. DAYUM. What is it about former Oz cast members that make any show better (Beecher was what finally got me to watch GK).

I'm definitely interested to see where the show goes from here. I loved its interpretation of Jonathan/Jack giving David his clothes and his sword (his promotion/position in the military). Also, I want some man-on-man action (besides proxy kissing) involving Jack. Possibly in his uniform. *koff*

Ah, see, I don't give the actor who portrays Jack any props. I find his performance weak and lacking, and while some of it has to be that junkie, whinging asthetic he gives off, I just don't find his portrayal convincing. He looks physically *weak* and in the instance of royalty and leadership, appearances are indeed *everything*. I wouldn't follow him into war. Hell, I wouldn't follow him across the street. Ian McShane on the other hand, he may not be attractive, but if the world is going to shit, he looks like he could handle it. I'd definitely think he could sort things out.

The phrase 'Man Up' is ringing resoundly here, and to me, Jack doesn't seem like he's 'manned up' at all. Do I think David is 'the chosen one' yet? Absolutely not, but I see more potential there. Doesn't mean I won't change my mind along the way, just that at this moment I am wholy-unconvinced.

I loved its interpretation of Jonathan/Jack giving David his clothes and his sword (his promotion/position in the military).

I suspect I would've felt differently if Jack had willingly given this to David, but he didn't. Silas gave it to David; Jack just bitched. And that, at its heart is what annoys me about Jack. He fucking whines about *everything8. Bloody hell, I know you're the Prince and you're used to getting everything, but the military should break you of at least some of that. If you want something, show you are worthy of it. I'm not saying stop fucking men if that's what you do, that's genetic, but lying about in your den of sin? Boring. If I want that Chuck Bass does it far better.

I really liked that the show changed this. Especially considering that we know that Jonathan and David become allies/friends/lovers later on. I wonder how the show will handle that. I also think that his bitching doesn't stem from not getting to do whatever he wants in the military but rather, not getting the respect that he's earned from his father (I hope we get more backstory w/r/t Jack's service in the military). About not *looking* strong enough for the part, I think it's weird that Sebastian Stan looked more substantial on Gossip Girls than he does on Kings. He's probably not who I would have cast for the role, but Chris Egan also seems a bit slight for David (though he does fit the "ruddy-cheeked" bill).

I agree with the Chuck Bass comparison though arguably, the drunken whining in the premiere can be chalked up to a combination of the trauma of being taken hostage and Silas's embrace of David over Jack (the straw that broke the camel's back maybe). There was the nightclub scene, but I wonder how much of the party boy persona is put on by Jack in an (apparently futile) attempt to hide his sexuality from his father. I also saw a brief clip of Jack in uniform speaking to his company (I assume) on NBC which gives me hope that Jack will, as you say, "man up."

I wasn't going to check this out (not Christian, don't know stories of the Bible very closely, whatev) but somebody's picspam of the show's first 10 mins + finding out Rev Samuels is played by the guy who plaid Said on Oz + your good word.. I am definitely going to check it out.

Dude, Reverend Samuels *ROCKED*! The garage scene where he wiped David's head with the same gesture used if he was *FREAKING ANOINTING HIM* made my DAY.

Jack has potential, but he didn't live up to it in this episode. I really hope that changes in the future. Jack (Jonathan) is supposed to be David's best friend.

Damn it, I've been completely spoiled by Merlin.

I knew exactly what it was, but still... it seemed mighty erotic. I'm just saying. And I wasn't even looking at the car when I had that thought.

I know! And this is part of why I was like, damn, Jack you are just a whinging pussy, aren't you? I mean, if under all that bitching I'd seen a glimmer of inner strength, hell, a flashback to him being all bad ass and brave on the battlefield, I'd've be like, right, he's multifaceted. Mostly I just thought, oh, hell to the no.

The production values and the majority of the acting is much stronger than anything you'll get on Merlin, but Merlin, you know, it's Merlin...

Reverend Samuels is brilliant! He gave David his watch! There was face-petting! He full-on threw him at all the girls and told him to enjoy himself! Hardcore awesome.

Jack was such a disappointment. I kept watching him and thinking, this is the man who's going to be half of the David-Jonathan friendship? Really? You're right, he needs to shape up sharpish.

I haven't been quite so smitten since Generation Kill. And that's not even counting the women! Eeeeeeeevil Queen Rose! Baltimore City Council President Nerese Campbell (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0012679/)! Michelle, who was quite sweet, and actually had a bit of moxie! I'm basking in the new-show glow. :D :D :D
