Three birds, one stone.

I know a lot of people are suffering to no end because of the inclement weather and for that I am sorry. I know people are probably stranded with cabin fever, maybe even without power (in which case, um, damn, son). But as bad as that is the people of Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation have been without power or water or heat for nearly two weeks. No, that's no typo.
I know people have been emptying their pockets for
help_haiti, which just goes to show the power of fandom, but if anybody's got a few dollars left that that they might want to throw this way for Emergency Assistance (or here via Piryx) to help these people or could even just pass the message on to people that might be able to help that would just be amazing.
It will never cease to baffle me as to why people feel the need to read and comment on stories they clearly don't like. Is your 'back' button broken? Do you really think your rudeness is so invaluable? Why would you say 'I didn't really like this story, I don't think you're a really good writer, but whatever, I read it.' Or better yet, "Everybody said this was good, but I just don't agree." I just... what?
Can someone tell me where manners went to die, becuse I'd like to put flowers on their grave?
In less irritating news, since I missed this when it was going on, I'm doing it today:
Today has been declared lurker amnesty day (by me!) Have you read me but never commented? Do you surf by occasionally? Here for the ficinsanity? Say hello! You are under no obligation to ever comment or delurk again, but here's a chance to do so in a post just for that.
Oh, and since this is my all-inclusive post, anybody have the new Sade, Corrine Bailey Rae or Massive Attack albums to share? SCORE! Thanks
sugargroupie and
jcase!

Date: 2010-02-11 07:27 am (UTC)I come back and read your GK stuff all the time because it's astoundingly brilliant, and you bring the best Broken!Brad ever. (Hi alliteration who let you in here.) I'm particularly fond of, um, everything? Seriously I just tried to go back through the GK tag to pick my top three and spent four hours to re-reading. Not that I would consider that anything but a great use of time. This is why I don't comment, I sound like a creepy stalker loon, and completely fail to make sense. The transformers-AU is perfectly executed, and the multiple stories you've set in the post-cannon are spectacular, and I get stuck between calling "It May Be Heart and Fist and Human Voice" or"Caelum non animum mutant qui trans mare currunt" my favourite love story ever, in fan or pro writing. And then I have to go back and read "Sir, Not to Get Homoerotic About This..." for the sheer power of the last scene.
Also, your enthusiasm got me watching Southland, and now I'm pissed off because even with the ultimate digital cable package currently in the household, we have no access to TNT, so I'm going to have to download the new stuff instead of watch it properly, and that sucks, 'cause it's a show I'd be willing to watch with the adds to support. It doesn't hurt that your fic for that series is some of the hottest stuff I've ever read.
Probably I will go back to not talking after this, because by the time I'm finished reading your work I tend to think all the good words have been used and I don't have a clapping-hands gif I can post. But since the amnesty is here it seemed a good time to join the chorus of voices proclaiming that you're awesome. 'Cause the chorus is right, and you are.
Can someone tell me where manners went to die, becuse I'd like to put flowers on their grave?
The body of manners was never found, and so there is no grave. However, some people do maintain memorials tucked politely out of the way. Unfortunately these tend to be vandalized on a regular basis.

Goddamn vandals! I shall go light a candle in the kitchen in spirit.
Also, please feel free to drop by any time, my LJ is always open :)

Date: 2010-02-12 03:55 am (UTC)Have you read me but never commented?
YES!
Hi! I read stories in GK fandom, Southland and some other fandoms but I practically never comment, not because I do not like the stories ( I LOVE them!!) but just because I feel shy? By the way, I did not even know about Gen Kill and Southland before I read your stories, and they are the reason I watched them and deeply fell in love! And I can’t be grateful enough for that! Thank you so very much!
P.S. Concerning “bad” comments - my guess is that some people just produce a certain amount of venom every day and must spray it, lol!! Anyways they are outnumbered by true fans who sends good wishes and love your way!!

I think I found you through a meta_fandom link, or someone's roundup of posts, and like the way you think. I've stayed more for that than the fic, though I admit I now want to watch GK and get to know these men you write about, so- good job!

Date: 2010-02-12 08:16 am (UTC)Rudeness aside, I do sometimes feel motivated to comment on fics I dislike, if something in them actually offends me. Particularly when it's something I see as an unhealthy world-view. And I often comment on the fics that have potential, but aren't there yet, because it breaks my heart when people are complacent and never develop their talent. However, I always try to be polite when I do so.

Date: 2010-02-15 11:53 am (UTC)Hello there! Here for the fic mostly. I thinks it's been ages, wow, years even. I don't even remember which fandom. It's been *that* long. So long that I no longer remember if it was fiction or social commentary that got me here in the first place.
But yeah... I'm mostly here for the fiction now. A fan of so much of your writing, most recently Merlin, Southland & GK of course. (Your praise is actually the reason I started watching those last two. So *thank you*.)
Outside of Buffy fandom when I first started out I tend to not treat LJ as an interactive medium but I thought I should after so long. So.. HI!
