Ali and I have an on-going dialogue about the current telly shows - who's been picked up for the back-nine, who hasn't, who might be going under the gun (she has firefly worries), and so i thought i'd take a moment to share with you exactly who's under what and why firefly ain't out the woods yet.
axed:
Push, Nevada (ABC): It was going nowhere slow and ABC has been having enough issues with their scheduling and everything else being in the tank. If anybody's got some good specs ::pokes Hope in the kidney:: they are SO your best bet.
That Was Then (ABC): Friday night kiss of death.
under the gun:
Firefly (FOX): It's still suffering from the Friday night flu, and it might be threatened even more by ABC's newest mid-season replacement 'And Then Came Jones' which is a 1800's Western about a guy who runs a brothel and is the town mayor. The guys who make this are also responsible for 'Boomtown.'
Crossing Jordan (NBC): It's getting the snot beat out of it by CSI:Miami and apparently the head-dude isn't that keen on it anyway. Another show he's not too keen on is...
Providence (NBC): Apparently their ratings have been falling off something fierce and NBC is none to pleased about it.
NBC is also fretting about 'Ed', 'The West Wing', and 'Scrubs.' Apparently all are falling of their lead-ins, and Ed is coming in third in it's time slot for A1849 demos (behind 'My Wife and Kids' and 'George Lopez'.) 'West Wing' viewing is down considerably and 'Scrubs' is barely retaining 2/3's of the Friends audience.
That all translates to bad news.
the lead actor could rob fort knox and the show would still be safe:
Smallville (WB): There are most definitely no worries numberwise as Smallville produced it's highest numbers to date this season 5.0/8 for Tuesday's episode 'Red.' Yes, higher than the season premiere and the following weeks. The only thing this show is in danger of is franchise stupidity. (Ex: rumours about cancellation due to Superman vs. Batman hype).
