R.I.P. Guru.

To me, Gang Starr has always epitomized the Golden Age of Hip-Hop. You know when you had to have talent and write your own rhymes. When you had to actually work for your music and it had nothing to do with Auto Tune and who you did a remix for or who you were beefing with on Twitter or whatever inane crap is happening now.

To show you how real talents do it, I present Exhibit A: Work and Exhibit B: Mass Appeal

*sigh*

In less distressing news, something rather odd happened to me last week. I was home (yeah, no that could be considered odd as well) but I found myself home in the evening with absolutely nothing on. And I do mean nothing. Except for the premiere of the new Doctor Who. I am not an old Who fan. I am not a new Who fan. Do not attempt to convert me to David Tennant or Rose or Chris Eccleston or Classic Who. I have very strong opinions about Tennant and you'll probably run off in tears.

So imagine my shock when I encountered Eleven. Oh, Matt Smith. Where have you been all my life with your floppy hair and bowties and quirky features that shouldn't work but do anyway? (I told you so [livejournal.com profile] sparky77 ♥)

[livejournal.com profile] issaro says you never forget your first doctor. Now I see what she's talking about. Do not spoil me, I have only seen one episode, but I will actively be looking for more, so hooray for that. And icons. I would be liking icons if someone cared to point me in said direction.

S4 of Mad Men premieres Sunday July 25th. 10pm. AMC. !!!! I've missed you Hotass Girlfriend of Awesome, even though you set the entire issue of Esquire on fire with your brilliance and hotassery

Some genius left their protype fourth generation iPhone in a bar. Oh my god, THE BRILLIANCE. What do you write on your unemployment form when you get fired for this?

Got drunk and left most wanted phone in universe at bar. My bad.

Last night I had a dream about Tony. Not Bob. Tony. Tony who you ask? Tony fucking Stark, people! And you know what that means? That means it's Summer Fandom time. Oh god I love summer fandom time. A chance to shake off the grief and ennui and frustration of fulltime fandoms and just fall in lust love filthy pornographic adoration with something awesome that's totally into public sex.

This has happened with Spider-Man 2. X-2. And the original Iron Man (can we sense a comic book theme here?) and frankly, I am so excited to be moving on.

On May 7th Tony Stark and I are getting it on.

I would very much LIKE to watch the new Who. I hear it is awesome. But you get your heart broken enough times by the same dude, you think very carefully before you go back to him, you know what I'm saying?

In other news, WOO LESS THAN A MONTH TIL IRON MAN 2!!! This also means another go-round of RDJ's hilarious interviews. I'm excited for those, too.

I've never dated this guy before, so I cannot attest to past behavior of other iterations. All I can say is that I find this one fun and sexy and adorable and smart and kind of manic. :D

IRON MAN BITCHES!

GangStarr was pure brilliance. It's just really sad that Guru's death is now overshadowed by this phony "good-bye letter" that Solar published. It's so ridiculous and petty!

Also, also. I didn't believe for a second that a developer seriously forgot the prototype of the new iPhone at a bar. Apple has long since leaked their stuff on purpose. And that stunt is just too ridiculous. When I heard about it my only thought was: I love that Apple isn't even pretending any more. ;)

*sigh*

It's always some shit with music, isn't it? Always somebody wanting to have the last word.

I dunno about that iPhone thing. I heard Apple's pretty pissed off. And you know, leaving something in a bar is just so... pedestrian it could go either way. It could be the best plant ever or the biggest fuck up in a long time.

Also your icon makes me all happy and tingly. I LOVE YOU SOUTHLAND!

Liked Eccleston, hated Tennant, love Smith. Dude. Passionately. Was so excited when I heard he was going to be the new doctor. And he has not disappointed! Also, HANDS. (Theme!)

Furthermore, TONY. I adore summer. And Tony.

(Oh, and icons.)

OMG! You love Matt, too?! BRAIN! ♥ times infinity! I was going to say something and then I felt like such a 13 year old dork and I couldn't stop flailing or mooning about like an idiot. The bowties and hands and his mouth it's too wide and shouldn't fit but it does and the hair! The hair! (I've never been a Who person, but Matt has single-handedly changed that. Was cool with Eccleston, *loathed* Tennant and Rose. Adored Martha and was down with Donna. )

I feel like we need a gratuitous hotass post of Matt.

I have not written Tony is almost two years, we are way overdue. He's just... yes. I am all about Tony Stark. And the suit of hotass. SHINY! So very shiny. And the arms!

So much love. So much! He is just so awesome and he shouldn't be that hot but he totally is (hair, yes!, and that grin!, and he's gangly, I love when they're all long-limbed...) and when the announcement first came out that he was going to the new doctor, for a while it seemed like everybody was all, NOOOO!, and he handled that with such grace, and the interviews he did were awesome, and he was funny, and I was all, LOVE.

You like long-limbs? I am shocked I tell you. Shocked! He is totally gangly and sometimes I fear he's truly not in control of all his body parts, but that's clearly part of the charm.

As for people not liking him or whatever, feh, when you step into somebody else's shoes there are always gonna be haters. That's just the nature if the beast.

Man, I forgot about all that X-Men 2 fic. Oh those halcyon days.

I couldn't stand Tennant, so maybe I'll give this Doctor a try. His hotass bowties and hair have been popping up all over my tumblr.

Isn't Matt Smith ADORABLE? I think he might be edging up on Eccleston's position as my Doctor, which I didn't think was possible. This season is just turning out so much fun, I'm glad you've hopped onboard for the ride! :D

Oh, and: [livejournal.com profile] dwicons

Tony would be a disaster. Eleven would keep him handcuffed at all times and Tony would love it. He would sing "Yellow Submarine" and"Maxwell's Silver Hammer" at the top of his lungs.

You are *terrible* influence. I have to write my [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti story!

God yes. But I dunno. I mean, I don't know enough about Tennant to hate the man personally. He does good Hamlet (o, the irony); it was just that the decisions Ten made were vaguely horrifying. Especially concerning Donna! She deserved better, the magnificent woman.

I've only seen a handful of episodes, but I've seen him with with Martha, Donna and Rose and frankly, it was his behavior towards Martha that had me seeing red. Well, that and his ego. Oh my god, the ego. Hell to the no.

From: [identity profile] storm-of-roses.livejournal.com
I had issues with that whole arc. He was such a little shit. I stopped watching there for a while; the treatment of Rose squicked me too (and it only got worse: very special episode, that season 4 finale.) I think all of the problems with Ten came from his ego. Have you seen Waters of Mars? It sort of came to a head there.

Yes! Anyway. That got a bit preachy, sorry. In summary: Martha also has a place in my heart, and Ten treated her horribly. She totally kicks ass later.

Have you read the fic where the three of them ditch the Doc and bop around time and space together?

So many awesome things in this post. 1. Hendrick's comments about the steel box, the importance of smell, etc. all ring so true to me. 2. I like the comments on that blog that Apple must have leaked the phone out on purpose, and fears of their ability to 'remotely kill' its operating system. 3. Iron Man sequel. Yay!

CH's comments about smell were MONEY. And I totally agree with her comments about Facebook. And compliments. And I loved the story about the circus book her husband bought her. ♥ CH.

I actually overheard somebody talking about the iPhone thing today and how people are really divided over whether or not it was a plant or an accident.

Tony! Tony!

Have I tried Treme?! Have I tried Treme?!

Do I sing the praise of David Simon? Do I blather incessantly about Southland? Is water wet?

LOL.

Yes, I have most definitely tried Treme. :) I think it's utterly fabulous. Yet again, David Simon has done something brilliant (not exactly shocking). I'm at the point though, where I am incapable of words, because it's just like, "....fucking hell."

*draws sparkly hearts on Treme*
