Theoretically speaking, of course.

If you’ve ever gone to college, or if you’ve ever been stoned, you need to read ‘Freshman Orientation’ by Punk Manuverability. I mean her name alone should convince you of that. ;)
Smallville
For
happyminion
Clark worries when Lex goes out of town. Sometimes he waits up at night. It wasn’t always this way of course, but in the very beginning Lex never went anywhere but Metropolis and that was only three hours away.
Two to five minutes for Clark depending on the weather.
But it all changed when Lex came back with Desiree, and Clark knows he’s been nervous ever since. It’s not that he thinks Lex isn’t coming back, or even that he’ll come back with something he didn’t leave with.
It’s just this thing.
Lex loves Clark; Clark knows this even if Lex never says it. So really then it’s just this issue that Clark hasn't dealt with yet, but he's got plenty of those. When he's not with Lex Clark doesn't know if he's okay, and it's hard for him.
Clark always thought Lex was the one with the huge control issues.
But Lex isn't really one for asking for help, and Clark worries when he can't see him. It’s not really protectiveness as much as it’s Clark being, well, a Kent.
When Clark can’t see and touch Lex, he gets concerned because this is Lex he’s thinking about, and Lex has this magnetic attraction for people and things, and most of them aren’t healthy for him. And really, Lex needs Clark, even if he never says it. So Clark can’t help but worry.
Sometimes he gets himself worked up.
Sometimes he forgets to breathe.
It’s been five years since the Atkins’ Fatal Attraction, two years since they ‘relocated’ to Metropolis, and six months since they started living together, but that doesn’t change anything. Clark still gets nervous, and he still waits for Lex to come home.
Meetings, trips, dinners and takeovers are all the same, it doesn’t really matter. Whether Clark’s camped out on the sofa so he can greet Lex when he comes walking through the door looking tired and drawn, or he keeps Lex’s space open on the right side of the bed, they’re just these things Clark does because he needs Lex in his life.
Clark needs Lex next to him so that things can be the way they’re supposed to be, destiny and all. Clark needs Lex with him so Clark can stop holding his breath and go back to sleep.

Date: 2003-01-07 10:48 am (UTC)You wrote something for me? You are the bestest baby girl ever.
It's so quiet and pesonal and *good*, Z.
And once again, you with the insights:
Lex has this magnetic attraction for people and things and most of them aren’t healthy for him.
I love it when you do Lex on the edge of snapping, but your quiet Clark gets me. *happy sigh*

I love this, his upbrining is so much a part of who he is, it's unfortunate that SV's Jonathan is such an ass because his father plays an important role in how Clark grows into such a selfless hero.

Control, man. Nobody can give it up, doesn't matter what they say.

My Clark, your Clark. Hey, your Clark took over the world to get his Lex back. Are there some issues there? You think? ;)

Date: 2003-01-08 09:16 am (UTC)I love that. I just love how much they fit into each other's lives and there is that spot, when Lex isn't there, that's quite obviously empty in Clark's life. I love this. And as always, I love you.

Date: 2003-01-08 09:55 am (UTC)You know how people always talking about puzzles and missing pieces and the like? I truly believe that together they could be the best man on earth, but apart, they're not really much good to anybody - hence the whole destruction of planets when things go wrong :) Just my .02

Date: 2003-01-10 09:46 pm (UTC)I have this thing when I write that things have to sound right together. I know that seems kind of freaky, but when I'm re-reading in my head and I always want stuff to flow, like songs. I think I listen to too much music or something. Huh. That completes that ramble I guess, anyhoo ;) I'm glad you enjoyed it.
