So busted.

Last night’s Everwood: Huh. I am thinking that the honeymoon is over. Colin is pissed! What, you think he was joking? Dude, he’s just figured out that his man has a history with his beard – this is not of the good. On the upswing, however, Colin and Ephram shared a room. Overnight. Two nights! C’mon people! Het & gen writers (looks pointedly at
taraljc and
plum_evil) do not be afraid!

One Night in Heaven
It’s supposed to be like this:
Not only does Ephram want to share a room with Colin, but he’s excited about it as well. They call each other several times before the trip to decide who’s going to bring what junk food and debating whether or not bringing 50 Ranma comics is overkill.
Colin says no, so Ephram brings them, because Ephram does things like that.
The entire ride up to the resort, instead of being forced to fake non-existent memories of a past life, Colin gets to talk about Ryouga/P-Chan shirts and what he and Ephram are going to do while everyone else is off freezing to death. It’s exactly how Colin wanted things to be; and to think that he thought Ephram wasn’t that interested in the trip, or maybe Colin was just afraid that Ephram didn’t want to spend all that time with him. Obviously he was wrong though, because Ephram is smiling, and he’s got the most amazing blue-green-gray eyes that Colin has ever seen.
Amy’s are brown.
It’s not the same thing.
When they arrive at the resort, Amy goes off skiing while Ephram and Colin wander around the resort, seeing everything there is to see. Truthfully, there’s not much that interests Colin but the company he keeps. He’s seen plenty of mountains before, and the snow's consistency doesn’t seem quite right, but when Ephram lobs a chunk of snow at him, he doesn’t mind.
There’s an impromptu snowball fight, the first one ever in Colin's eyes. Only his left arm still isn’t that strong, so as a last resort he tackles Ephram into an appropriately placed drift. Colin gets snow down his jacket, and Ephram gets snow in his hair. He blinks a lot when Colin reaches up and brushes it out without a second thought.
It’s the first time that Colin’s touched Ephram, and it makes him feel warm, despite the snow melting against his back.
At night, after curfew and lights out, they stay up late talking about Samurai Jack and how much Ephram likes playing piano. Ephram tries to inquire about the things that Colin likes, only Colin really doesn’t know. He doesn’t know if he prefers crusts or not, or spaghetti or ravioli. Colin hasn’t made his mind up about most things, and when he tells Ephram this he admits there’s one qualification.
For all the things he doesn’t know, Colin knows that he likes Ephram, and Ephram just gives him this long, slow smile that makes Colin want to switch beds. So he does, and Ephram says that it’s okay. And when he falls asleep in Ephram’s bed, Colin thinks that this trip is the best thing that's ever happened to him.
Only it’s not like that at all.
Instead it goes like this:
Ephram hardly spends any time with Colin, but perhaps that’s because Colin keeps getting dragged around by Amy.
Ephram kisses Laynie.
Colin kisses Amy.
Only Colin thinks of kissing Ephram instead, so he starts a fight because he thinks Amy can see this on his face. However, when he catches Amy looking at Ephram he begins to think he’s not the only one whose heart is somewhere else.
At night Colin goes back to the room he shares with Ephram, the room he was so excited about, and sits in the dark wondering how everything has gone so horribly wrong. Ephram comes in some time later and says nothing about Colin sitting around with no lights on. Instead he turns on a sidelamp and starts telling Colin all these things about Amy, and what Colin really wants to ask is, why do you know so much about her when you don’t ask about me?
Except that Ephram just keeps going on and on about Amy and Grover, even though Colin doesn’t know what the hell a Grover is. And the more Ephram talks, the worse Colin feels. Why doesn’t Colin have a pet name that Ephram knows, and what else is Colin missing? Their time together wasn’t supposed to be about girls it’s supposed to be about them; and when Colin tries to go to sleep while listening to Ephram get ready for bed, he realizes that this trip is nothing like heaven and everything like hell.
