Splintered light breaks on he carpet at his feet, the high, stainedglass window frames Lex’s profile. He says, “You can have whatever you want now.” Lucas only sees one side of the smile, of the dented corner of his brother’s mouth, but it’s enough. He’s known men like this before, got three broken ribs, a fractured jaw and a bullet hole in his shoulder from the last one.
Lex doesn’t have to *tell* Lucas anything about himself. Lucas might have only found out recently, but he’s a Luthor. Lex doesn’t have to tell him anything, Lucas smiles his own tight smiles, hides own thoughts behind them.
“I want some family time.” Lucas taps one finger on Lex’s desk, watches Lex’s placid face, his perfectly still, unforgiving face outlined by the lurid glass of the window, and he thinks he might have felt kinship too early, misjudged his position.
Lucas opens his mouth to say it, “You think you had it so fucking hard.” But he never says it.
Lex never told Lucas he had it bad, never shows any scars, talks about broken bones, complains about Lionel.
“I’m moving back to Metropolis anyway, Lucas. We can certainly manage some family time.” Lex stands, his chair rolling back as he pushes his hands in his pockets and rounds the desk. “We’ll get to know each other better.”
Lucas smiles his Lionel smile, mirrored by his brother, and realizes he hasn’t heard the boy’s name in a while. Hasn’t heard much from Lex but stock reports and dividend projections, snide remarks about Lex’s fading interest in that doctor chick.
When his fingers grip Lex’s bicep, both their smiles fade, but neither flinches.
shit. you are good. you are brilliant. you are so my girl.

I want some family time too. Lemme go set up the digital camera. Yes, I am sick. I don't care.
Dude, that's like the only one worth taping! That one and Rosetta. Okay and Insurgeance (you know with the whole Lionel/Martha hostage thing). Everything else is just filler. *vbg*

Date: 2003-03-12 12:58 pm (UTC)I will think about something real on this topic. I need to see Lucas again, though. I didn't tape that one.
