Being gay isn’t something to be ashamed of.
Clark knows this. He’s read it on the Internet. He’s talked it over with Chloe. He’s even talked it over with his mom.
No, Clark isn’t ashamed of being gay.
He’s not ashamed of being bisexual either, because that’s probably a little bit closer to the mark than the gay thing. But coming out is coming out, and he can always move back to the median later on.
No, Clark’s not ashamed of that either.
But Clark’s ashamed of something, and he knows Lex can tell because he’s sitting at his desk, waiting, and no good conversation ever started with the words ‘you and I need to talk.’
That’s probably why Lex put his pen down.
That’s probably why he shut down his laptop.
There are only so many ways you can apologize for withholding the truth, but being honest doesn’t necessarily mean you have to compromise who you are.
So when Clark tells Lex that he’s not from ‘around these parts’ he does it because he’s proud of who he is and he wants to share that with Lex.
Apparently that’s what people do when they’re in love.
Unfortunately, reality never tends to measure up to fantasy.
The reconciliation wasn’t supposed to happen like this.
He was supposed to be contrite.
He was supposed to be sorry.
At least he was supposed to apologise, but Harry did none of those things.
The git didn’t even bring flowers.
Point in fact, when he showed up on Draco’s doorstep at half-four in the afternoon, four months, three weeks and six days after Draco had shown him the door, he didn’t even have the decency to look ashamed.
He just looked a bit lost, and he muttered something about not being able to find the strawberry jam.

Notes: Coda to ‘Unlabeled’
The first thing he’ll say is that he’s not sorry for what he’s done.
Excuses imply guilt of some kind.
Billy may be guilty, but he doesn’t feel guilty about what he’s done.
He’s only sorry he didn’t do it sooner.

The second thing he’ll say is that Dom asked for it all along.
Perhaps not deliberately, but certainly in other ways.
Every time that Dom brushed up against him in a space with more than adequate room for both of them to manoeuver, he might as well have told Billy to touch him. Every time that Dom cocked his jaw in Billy’s direction and stared that fraction too long, he might as well have crawled in Billy’s bed starkers and demanded to be shagged.
Dom may not have said he wanted it, but his actions spoke a lot louder.

The third thing that Billy will say is that it’s got nowt to do with any sort of extraneous influences.
A pint does not a drunk Dom make. Three pints does not a drunk Billy make.
Billy’s not pissed. He knows exactly what he’s doing.
If this is his only chance to snog Dom, he’s not going to muck it up by being out his tree.

There’s no fourth thing that Billy would say.
He’ll not make excuses.
Instead he’ll just pull away slowly and watch Dom lick his lips, thoughtfully, as though contemplating the flavour of a new lolly.

The fifth thing that he'll say, which perhaps should have been the first, is that Guinness tastes much better in Dom’s mouth than his own.
He’d never have known that if he hadn’t snogged Dom though.
“Took you long enough,” Dom says, finally, scratching his neck absently.
Of all the things Billy expected him to say, that wasn’t even on the register.
Leave it to Dom to say what Billy can't.

And what made Lionel go looking for Lucas? I guess that was the first time Lex showed some real spine. As in Lionel said "You're 16, here's your first business project, show me if you're good enough." And Lex didn't do it the way his father would've wanted him to. Or missed an opportunity because of doing the right thing and not being completely unscrupulous. That'd make Lionel running for the hills for sure.

Second, thank you so much for your kind words about my Billy/Dom. I've only recently *read in the last five days* succumbed to writing this particular flavour of LOTRips so all encouragement is greatly appreciated. With regards to the HP jam though, that's probably residuals left over from The Crush Trilogy which I wrote... a while ago. It's probably only been five months, but it feels like ages.
