One plus one equals two. Not one.
No sort of maths with work that sort of addition, unless Billy starts with the fractions and that other nonsense, and that’s not what he's on about at all.
No.
It’s not about that.
What Billy’s always wondered is how people manage to get themselves lost in relationships in such a way that they really believe that they’re a part of this other person. He’s watched his mates get so caught up with birds and blokes that they… they forget who they are. What they are.
They're still only one person.
Billy's watched his mates become so lost in their partners that they've turned into some completely separate entity.
It’s not Kieran and Emma, instead it’s KieranandEmma or IanandNick, and that scares the piss out of him.
Really, what a fucking horrifying thought.
It’s not that Billy’s got commitment problems. It’s just that he’s quite happy the way he is, and he’s quite happy with Dom the way he is.
He’s got no desire to become someone else. He’s got no desire to become a lanky Manc git with an oral fetish. Well, the oral bit’s not so bad, but Billy can do without the rest of it.
Yes, he’s quite happy being Scottish.
He’s quite happy being himself, and he reckons that Dom feels the same way.
Dom would be a terrible Scot.
Billy can’t quite think of why, right now, but he’s dead certain of this. And the more he knocks it about, he reckons it has to do with changing the innate Dom-ness of Dom. Dom isn’t Scottish. He’s a northern lad who still curses in German, and throws wobblers when his football team loses.
That’s why Billy’s mad about him.
He doesn’t want Dom to be more like him.
He doesn’t’ want to be more like Dom either.
They’re good together because they’re not the same, and when two people come together, they’re still two people. They don’t become one. They’re not halves looking to bloody well complete anything Mr. Jerry-Tom-I’m-Such-A-Fucking-Poof-McGuire.
Bastard went and mucked it up for every bloke out there.
It’s one thing to want someone to be happy.
It’s something else entirely to forget who you are in the pursuit of that.
As much as Billy fancies Dom, as much as he’d like to be with Dom well into the future, he’ll be buggered if he’ll change who he is just to make Dom happy in their relationship.
He’d rather be alone than compromise himself.
Maybe that’s why he thinks they’ll last when everyone else falls apart.

That line is just... perfect. So absolutely Billeh. I really loved these musings, because they ring so true. Thanks for sharing.

Careful now, ODing would be bad. I can just see the toxicology reports now: 'OD'd on Nyquil.'

*sighing even more* Love this.
And these are a few of the best lines I'd read this year. Just fantastic.

I'm so glad you liked this, sweetie. :::gives enormous hugs::: I'm trying very hard to stay away from RPS (cos 'oh, it's just so wrong'. (HAHAHAHAHA!)) actually, no, I just didn't want to succumb to writing BB because I knew I'd like him too much. Bugger. Anyway. You are brilliant and I adore you, and all that stuff. *vbg*

Jaysis, is Angelina's tongue longer than the average human or is my mind just really that dirty? Probably my mind you say? Eh, you're probably right. Oh, well. I'm glad you liked this. Thank you *g*

Date: 2003-03-27 06:41 pm (UTC)This is great stuff. Very simple, but very poignant. I always felt that way, myself. Besides, with Billy/Dom, you can't go wrong. Well, if the writer doing them is as fab a writer as you are.
