I am not dead (WTF! if you said I was; nevermind, if you didn't notice) -- I'm just v v busy. If I missed something important, lemme know, because I'm not checking back over four weeks of LJ.

In other news, I managed to get my smarmy paws on a copy of Brokeback Mountain which was not terribly easy as it's not being published anymore, full stop. (Yes, that's the gay cowboy story) And I have to say that considering it checks in at a whopping 58 pages long there's a whole lot of room for interpretation.

Did I mention that said book is travel-sized, the font is at least 14 pt, and I read it in 90 minutes?

Yeah, so, um, I can't wait to see the movie. I think. If it's true to the text then 'yay, we get smut' - but while I was reading the story I kept thinking 'dude, it's like a short fan fic,' -- only not quite as well written. The entire thing was published in The New Yorker at some point, I believe, and there was some beautiful imagery and I'm not even an imagery girl. So, if you can get a copy you should, but don't, like, wear yourself out or anything. Go read The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay instead.

dude i need to borrow that book - esp. if there's some good smut.

and did you hear about this:
http://www.hellomagazine.com/film/2004/04/29/malkovichbranagh/

i am still sad that i won't be here when PoA drops (b/c watching it with my nieces is going to be very anticlimatic - who will i squeal about the gay with? *cries*)

Dude, that Malkovich rumor can't be true, can it? He's American. This confuses me.

God I hope it's a rumour - didn't JKR say something about only having Brits in her films? I keep running into people who are excited about the casting - why? *cries* First with get a Remus with the droopy porn mustache, and now we get a Voldie with Malkovichy tics! It doesn't make sense.

Still in love and envious of your icon. *pets the Pretty*

Yes, I remember that, and it's proved true so far. I really don't think they'd go back on that.

I keep running into people who are excited about the casting - why? *cries*

*shrugs* I like John Malkovich, but not for Voldemort. I don't know what those people are thinking. Sheep! Sheep I tell you! *g*

Still in love and envious of your icon. *pets the Pretty*

Isn't it lovely? I told my Iconmaker Extraordinaire to fiddle around and do what she wanted with it. She wasn't enamored of the result, but I love it.

I like John Malkovich, but not for Voldemort. I don't know what those people are thinking.

I like JM as well, but I just feel he'll be too studied for the part - I'll be watching JM play Voldemort instead of Voldemort (which is why Being John Malkovich is such a brilliant film since it glorifies all his little tics *g*) Plus, I find it hard to believe that Christian Coulson (oh so hot) could grow up to become JM. Who knows though? I had similar concerns with Alan Rickman's casting, and look at what a fantastic Snape he makes.

Re: the Brit thing
Granted I'm a total ignoramus when it comes to nuances, but I wonder if it really even matters if they cast Brits or not since they don't seem that particular? I stumbled upon this discussion in LJ over accents (which made no sense to me whatsoever) - what the hell does Estuary mean?

And what can I do to make you write more of the crack? I'm greedy and need more. More!

Z - we have officially hijacked your LJ since you aren't coming out to play. Heat getting to you?

well, let's not forget that by book 4, Whats-his-name has slitty, red eyes and a nose like a snake's. Methinks there'll be a fair amount of makeup involved no matter who they get. I'm more concerned, like you, that somebody too high-profile is going to distract people from the fact that this is *Voldemort*.

what the hell does Estuary mean?

Um. Well, I know what an estuary is, but i don't think that's what they're referring to here. It must be a class or regional classification of accent. This is more a Z question. Um. Hi Z! *waves* I can see what they're saying about Tom Felton's accent, though. He's about one step away from flat-out Cockney, and that's *not* Draco. Spike, maybe.*g*

And what can I do to make you write more of the crack? I'm greedy and need more. More!

I was working on it yesterday, but...but...I don't know, nobody knows what the hell they're doing, least of all me! *wails*

Dude, it's a short story, of course it's short! And the collection it appears in, Close Range (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0684852225/qid=1083283454/sr=8-1/ref=pd_ka_1/103-9393138-6687020?v=glance&s=books&n=507846), is still very much in print and easy to find.

i read the whole thing online. man, i would have given you the link had i known you were looking.

and yeah. AM SO EXCITED FOR GAY COWBOY SEX. especially with gylenhaal and ledger. for some reason, though, i kind of expected jake to be ennis, and heath to be jack. i don't know. ennis seemed more jake-like. *shrugs*

i know, isn't that weird? i think ennis seems much more like a jake gyllenhaal character, and jack much more a heath ledger sort of character. i guess i read the whole thing assuming jack would be heath and ennis would be jake, so that might be where it came from-- i don't know, though. it just seems like it would be better that way then heath playing ennis.

Date: 2004-05-04 04:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hackthis.livejournal.com
That's how I read it as well, I mean when you think about the character descriptions and all, it just seems better with Jake as Ennis. I'm very sad now.

i'm confused. Close Range (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0684852225/qid=1083299986/sr=8-1/ref=pd_ka_1/104-0236292-2787121?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) is the collection of short stories in which Brokeback Mountain was being, and still is, published. Unless of course someone snuck acid into my wine again and i'm just tripping.

but anyway, isn't it a fucking awesome story? and they're likely to film part of it in Wyoming. squee. v.squee.

I was about to send out a search party

I loved the book myself. Loved the gay cowboy smut, loved how little Proulx had to say to tell *20* years of story. As a short story, it kicks ass. And the end *killed* me.

I've already fallen in love with the not yet finished movie, in a possibly scary way. GAY COWBOY SMUT YAY!

And actually, I've been looking for The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay in bookstores for over a week now, so. That's next. *g*

Well, dunno if you think this is actually important, but for some reason I've found myself writing a lot of Riley/Graham smut.

If, you know, that sort of thing interests you.

Hope life is a little less busy for you now!
