I am not dead (WTF! if you said I was; nevermind, if you didn't notice) -- I'm just v v busy. If I missed something important, lemme know, because I'm not checking back over four weeks of LJ.
In other news, I managed to get my smarmy paws on a copy of Brokeback Mountain which was not terribly easy as it's not being published anymore, full stop. (Yes, that's the gay cowboy story) And I have to say that considering it checks in at a whopping 58 pages long there's a whole lot of room for interpretation.
Did I mention that said book is travel-sized, the font is at least 14 pt, and I read it in 90 minutes?
Yeah, so, um, I can't wait to see the movie. I think. If it's true to the text then 'yay, we get smut' - but while I was reading the story I kept thinking 'dude, it's like a short fan fic,' -- only not quite as well written. The entire thing was published in The New Yorker at some point, I believe, and there was some beautiful imagery and I'm not even an imagery girl. So, if you can get a copy you should, but don't, like, wear yourself out or anything. Go read The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay instead.

Date: 2004-04-30 12:10 pm (UTC)Yes, I remember that, and it's proved true so far. I really don't think they'd go back on that.
I keep running into people who are excited about the casting - why? *cries*
*shrugs* I like John Malkovich, but not for Voldemort. I don't know what those people are thinking. Sheep! Sheep I tell you! *g*

Isn't it lovely? I told my Iconmaker Extraordinaire to fiddle around and do what she wanted with it. She wasn't enamored of the result, but I love it.

Date: 2004-04-30 01:36 pm (UTC)I like JM as well, but I just feel he'll be too studied for the part - I'll be watching JM play Voldemort instead of Voldemort (which is why Being John Malkovich is such a brilliant film since it glorifies all his little tics *g*) Plus, I find it hard to believe that Christian Coulson (oh so hot) could grow up to become JM. Who knows though? I had similar concerns with Alan Rickman's casting, and look at what a fantastic Snape he makes.
Re: the Brit thing
Granted I'm a total ignoramus when it comes to nuances, but I wonder if it really even matters if they cast Brits or not since they don't seem that particular? I stumbled upon this discussion in LJ over accents (which made no sense to me whatsoever) - what the hell does Estuary mean?
And what can I do to make you write more of the crack? I'm greedy and need more. More!
Z - we have officially hijacked your LJ since you aren't coming out to play. Heat getting to you?

Date: 2004-04-30 01:53 pm (UTC)well, let's not forget that by book 4, Whats-his-name has slitty, red eyes and a nose like a snake's. Methinks there'll be a fair amount of makeup involved no matter who they get. I'm more concerned, like you, that somebody too high-profile is going to distract people from the fact that this is *Voldemort*.
what the hell does Estuary mean?
Um. Well, I know what an estuary is, but i don't think that's what they're referring to here. It must be a class or regional classification of accent. This is more a Z question. Um. Hi Z! *waves* I can see what they're saying about Tom Felton's accent, though. He's about one step away from flat-out Cockney, and that's *not* Draco. Spike, maybe.*g*
And what can I do to make you write more of the crack? I'm greedy and need more. More!
I was working on it yesterday, but...but...I don't know, nobody knows what the hell they're doing, least of all me! *wails*

Date: 2004-04-30 12:52 am (UTC)I've already fallen in love with the not yet finished movie, in a possibly scary way. GAY COWBOY SMUT YAY!
And actually, I've been looking for The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay in bookstores for over a week now, so. That's next. *g*

Well, dunno if you think this is actually important, but for some reason I've found myself writing a lot of Riley/Graham smut.
If, you know, that sort of thing interests you.
Hope life is a little less busy for you now!
