I am not dead (WTF! if you said I was; nevermind, if you didn't notice) -- I'm just v v busy. If I missed something important, lemme know, because I'm not checking back over four weeks of LJ.

In other news, I managed to get my smarmy paws on a copy of Brokeback Mountain which was not terribly easy as it's not being published anymore, full stop. (Yes, that's the gay cowboy story) And I have to say that considering it checks in at a whopping 58 pages long there's a whole lot of room for interpretation.

Did I mention that said book is travel-sized, the font is at least 14 pt, and I read it in 90 minutes?

Yeah, so, um, I can't wait to see the movie. I think. If it's true to the text then 'yay, we get smut' - but while I was reading the story I kept thinking 'dude, it's like a short fan fic,' -- only not quite as well written. The entire thing was published in The New Yorker at some point, I believe, and there was some beautiful imagery and I'm not even an imagery girl. So, if you can get a copy you should, but don't, like, wear yourself out or anything. Go read The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay instead.

i'm confused. Close Range (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0684852225/qid=1083299986/sr=8-1/ref=pd_ka_1/104-0236292-2787121?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) is the collection of short stories in which Brokeback Mountain was being, and still is, published. Unless of course someone snuck acid into my wine again and i'm just tripping.

but anyway, isn't it a fucking awesome story? and they're likely to film part of it in Wyoming. squee. v.squee.
