Zach is totally nice, don't get me wrong. Accepting and kind and geeky. All wonderful!

But did he sleep with his ex-girlfriend's mom only to find out that his father was gay and attempt to thwart a psychotic stalker on behalf of his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend, only to have a tragic near-end due to reckless drunk driving? No, my friend. That honor goes to Luke.

Luke was the most useful character in the first season. He moved more plots than Days of our Lives. ;)

Although I loved how Luke became a good guy and how Chris Carmack broke my heart every time he showed his vulnerability with marissa and with Julie. But Josh Schwartz painted himself into a corner when he started to over-Golden Retriever Luke's character. He became almost cartoon-y, and not 3D.

The same bad-to-good boy transformation was done on Bright in Everwood but with Bright, it was done without losing the oafishness that was part of Bright's charm (?) -- he just became a nice lovable oaf, instead of a bully.
