Can I get some assistance, please?

I was going to ask lj_maintenance about this, but since I know you lot know more than they do, and are more likely to answer my question, is anybody else getting this when they try to respond to comments from their email/gmail accounts. More importantly how do you make it go away?

This message has just gone up on support:

LiveJournal's feature for replying to comments in email is not working properly for Gmail users. This is due to a recent change at Gmail that is out of LiveJournal's control. If you are affected by this problem, you will need to reply to comments at the site directly, or use a different email service. (Note that LiveJournal does not guarantee that this feature will work for everyone, due to the many differences between email providers and clients. For more information, or if you use a provider other than Gmail, see the reply-by-email troubleshooting tips.)

I believe this means we now need to complain to Gmail.

I am getting an error, but not that exact one. Something about journals no longer valid or something. Several other people on my flist are getting errors, too. I do not know how to make it go away, though, so I'd love it if someone would share how.

I have the same problem! on both JF and LJ, and it started 2 days ago. I;ve been going roundabout by going back to the page, and I have no clue where this is suddenly coming from. but since it does it on both sites I would guees it's not a change on LJ, more like a chnage on gmail though which ones, beats me.

I;m using Firefox, wondred if there was a connection too? B ut then it used to work earlier, so....

yes, and its making me insane. do you use gmail to try and respond? im trying to figure out if its an lj thing or a gmail thing..

I don't think gmail allows replies to comments from email - but then I never tried because I assumed that from the get-go, what with the weird way it groups emails... I think I read somewhere else that it didn't work with gmail.

Having said that, Iam just relaying hearsay so... I shall be checking this page to see if you're getting proper informed responses. Because that would be so handy. Especially with the constant problems with replying to comments in LJ.

Gmail does allow replies to comments from email. It worked fine for me until last week or so, when LJ started giving me weird responses and preventing me from doing so.

YES. I am getting that as well. At first I thought it was my computer screwing up. Is this a problem unique to gmail users?

I get it too... it appears to be a g-mail only problem as my friends with yahoo/hotmail aren't getting it.

I get a similar error replying from LJ. Figure that one out. I have to hit the back button and try submitting a reply again to get through it. I don't know why it's doing it, but it started about two weeks ago and only does it randomly.

Bane of my existence for about a week now

I think it's a Gmail problem because I get a similar error when trying to do replies from greatestjournal (http://www.greatestjournal.com). So frusterating, as I switched to GMail from Hotmail when Hotmail stopped letting me do the email reply thing.

Word. I think the Gmail folks keep tweaking the site, which is nice, but it means that some features keep blinking in and out of existence. Like, the "invite a friend" thing? Has been moved some half-dozen times. My guess is that they recently tweaked the code and as a result we can't post responses from email. Which sucks, a lot. But I think we should take it up with the Gmail folk, rather than the LJ ones.

You could try using a different email address for your LJ account, at least for a while - if the problem is with gmail, that should do the trick. I know it's patching the problem, not solving it, but if it gets rid of the irritation...

I just filled out a thing on gmail telling them about the problem. :\

I hope it gets fixed.
