People suck.

Time and time again this sentiment is brought home to me, and yet I still keep on believing, and I tell you, it’s like beating my head against the wall or running smack into an Italian midlfielder.

Sometimes you just want to believe the best of people, but they just keep disappointing the fuck out of you, or why Italy may‘ve won the World Cup but they totally lose with me... )
Brandon Routh as Supes is hotass. The Scariest Man™ ever (Christian Bale) as Bats is sadly hotass too. When you put them together that's like overkill.

Entourage /RPS/F -- Ari FUCKING Gold. Brandon Routh. Lloyd. George Clooney. For [livejournal.com profile] issaro and [livejournal.com profile] serialkarma who provided the photo and for [livejournal.com profile] vylit because this isn't the Johnny Cash story I promised her, but all I've got.

No superheroes were harmed in the making of this fictitious story.

This One Time When I Was a Superhero

It's really the photograph of Superman and Christian Bale that does it for Ari because a) it's really fucking gay, and b) George has been kind of miserable since Bradley and the Anti-Christ popped out the Golden Child and c) the only thing better than signing Brandon Routh would be signing Brandon Routh and hooking him up with George. – Entourage S3 spoilers )
1. The OTP for the next generation: Shiloh and Kingston.. [livejournal.com profile] kattiya called this from day one.

2. I haven't read a comic book in a very fucking long ass time, because everyone was becoming extraordinarily tiresome, but [livejournal.com profile] ethrosdemon told me something that happened in Crisis-verse and uh, yeah, not even trying to hear that. Not fucking acceptable at all. Excuse me I need a timeout before I have a rage blackout.

3. Having gone to a screening of Supes Returns I can say quite surprisingly that is Brandon Routh stupidly hot and not only would I hit that, but I might even write about it… in some other universe, because with the exception of Frank Langella (Perry) and the perennial cuckold, everybody else made my skin crawl. Well except for Spoiler ).

4. Maybe I will write myself some completely gratuitous Kon/Tim

5. Did anybody else have an episode after the World Cup semis, because really, OMGWTF?! No England, no Brasil, no Ballack Germany? The fuck?

6. My Top 5 Songs at the Moment

Jeff Buckley 'If You See Her, Say Hello' (cover) -- A song about the things you've fucked up and the people you miss.
Gnarls Barkey 'Who Cares' -- Next time you find yourself stuck with someone who won't shut up, think of this song.
Kubb 'Bitch' -- Do not be put off by the title, this is a fucking gorgeous song.
Regina Spektor 'Chemo Limo' -- Ah, Regina does to you again. Get Begin to Hope or Soviet Kitch, you won't be disappointed.
The Roots 'Don't Say Nuthin' -- Guaran-fucking-teed to get you grooving in your seat.
Today is a big day.

Huge.

Enormous.

The sheer capacity for monumental things is mind-boggling. If this day were measured in cash, you would never have to work again. Seriously. It's 3 July. It's about two thousand degrees outside. England have packed it in at the World Cup; Brasil have packed it in too (which is another post altogether). But the most important bit -- sit down, get ready for it -- is that today is a Monday. What? My morning went a lot like this:

Me: *asleep*
Ari: Wake the fuck up, bitch!!
Me: *rolls over* Meh?
Ari: It's [livejournal.com profile] serialkarma's birthday, what the fuck are you doing lying down like Brad getting it in the ass from Angie?
Me: Go away, Ari. And also, that visual was uncalled for.
Ari: Don't make me come and get you.
Me: My name is not Lloyd, this does not scare me
Ari: Stop being a pussy and get up and tell SK that I still have a job for her -- on my lap.
Me: You're so classy, Ari.
Ari: Yeah, we can hug it out later.

So, yes, it's true -- today is [livejournal.com profile] serialkarma's birthday. And the thing is I've known SK for a while now, or at least long enough for me to have asked her to marry me, like, six times -- even though we probably wouldn't even make it to the Registrar's Office without bloodshed, because we can't agree on anything, and she can't cook without trying to burn the house down. The fact of the matter, though, is that there's no one quite like her, and I adore her muchly. She's steady and sarcastic and extraordinarily amusing and giving, and I could totally make her a Personal Ad, but suffice to say that my life is better for having her in it. So. Here is to you, sweetie, I hope you have a very Happy Birthday. And Ari loves you too. ♥
1. Harry Potter and some other random people and NEVILLE. It's a skit for the Queen's 80th birthday. I dunno what happens, it has Neville, I care about that. He's totally going to be tres hot geek!boy in another two years.

2. I have been making noises about a young singer named Paolo Nutini for about two months now. 19 years-old. Scottish. Looks a little like Liam Gallagher, if Liam actually had two eyebrows and was fit. He has a voice like a 27 year-old J.D. abusing, 2-pack-a-day, broken hearted man, think like Ray LaMontagne. Paolo's big single right now is 'Last Request'(live). The video is available here via You Tube, and/or his site, which also has various songs for download. And because nobody should make up their minds properly based on one song (unless it's sung by Jeff): Rewind and Million Faces

3. Radiohead make everything better. Based on what I've heard, whenever the new album drops, it will be fucking amazing. If they're in a town near you, go see them. OR. Or you could just watch Season Three Entourage and read about Lloyd -- that makes things a lot better too. OR You could interview with Ari for a Job. I know you all want to play with Ari.

4. The World Cup. Men from 32 countries. Shorts. Legs. Sweat. FOOTBALL. Finally, everyone is on the same page. Joe Cole + Peter Crouch = One Truly Cracked Pairing. Don't even get me started with all the kissing disguised as slobbering, spanking, molesting and other things that they call goal celebration. I call it by its proper name: an ORGY.

ETA: It is all about devotion to your sport, kids. Take the Thai monks who are up all night watching the World Cup, and are then too tired to receive alms the next day, you know, for an example.
Due to my waning fandom interest there'll be some changes around these parts, including less posting, less writing ((unless the het OTP of Shawn/Isabelle (44004eva!) or Ari (Season THREE!) deem otherwise) and a downsizing of my reading list.

* It's possible this will only be a summer occurrence, or it could be a sign of things to come. I'm not a psychic, and frankly, I'm just not that bothered.

Chapter V – Part I of II )
woke up this morning
feeling excellent
picked up the telephone
dialed the number of
my equal opportunity employer
to inform him I will not
be into work today
"Are you feeling sick?"
the boss asked me
"No, sir" I replied
"I am feeling too good
to report to work today
if I feel sick tomorrow
I will come in early."

Chapter IV: Where in there are visitors, and spells, and magic, and stuff that, like, happens and shit. It's pretty cool, and angsty, and snarky, and funny. But writers always think their shit is cool. And angsty. And snarky. And funny. )
Okay, people, I have a real problem and need real solutions *pauses* Is that an advert from somewhere? I digress. [livejournal.com profile] issyadore sent me a clip of Jeremy Piven Ari on Conan, because NOBODY TOLD ME HE WAS ON, WHAT THE FUCK PEOPLE?! Err, right, so, Ari was on, Jane sent me the clip, but it is blocked on this computer, help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you are my only hope!!!

If you can't do that, though, uh, I'm in the market for the following mp3s

- Q-Tip 'Vivrant Thing'
- Janet Jackson 'Love Will Never Do Without you'

- LL Cool J 'I Can't Live Without my Radio'
- Johnny Kemp 'Just Got Paid'
- Dave Chappelle 'Killing Em Softly' or any other Dave Stand-up, but not the Chapelle Show.

Also, yay, I have new Slodicons!

ETA: It is my considered opinion after watching House that Foreman and Chase are *so* doing it. People, talk to me, where's the fic?
Stephanie Plum people ([livejournal.com profile] runpunkrun and [livejournal.com profile] antheia and anybody else who reads the books), I had a thought that Yancy Arias (Thief, Kingpin) would be a really fabulous Ranger, so if someone were, like, writing Ranger/Morelli, not that I am because I am busy and that totally wouldn't get written til like June/July, but then who would you cast as Morelli?

These are taxing questions that I ponder when I'm supposed to be kicking out Chapter V of Twentysomething.

ETA: Song of the Day: Bell x1 'Reacharound' -- I discovered Bell x1 last year at some point, liked them, but didn't think too much of it. I classified them as Downtempo on my iPod, good for hangovers and Sunday brunch, but nothing too stellar, and then a few weeks ago I tripped over this single. Priceless doesn't even cover it. The title means exactly what you think is means but assume no one could ever put out a song about. The singer even tells you upfront, Always good for a reacharound.

Someone should really write a story *cough* or some comment porn about that. Or you know, provide me with more Bell x1.
After a little over two years of waiting, the new Snow Patrol album is out. Eyes Open was released in the UK yesterday and will be available in the US next Tuesday. In honour of that album and the new Gomez album, How We Operate which is available now, I've thrown together a little zip action for you lot in hopes that it'll spur you on to buy the album when/if they're available in your areas*.

This zip contains some of my favourite songs from Eyes Open, How We Operate, and When It's All Over We Still Have to Clear Up, which is the Snow Patrol album before Final Straw.

Click here, or here for the Rock This zip.

*Damn The Man and all his bullshit about people not buying CDs when they have mp3s.

ETA: The most darling [livejournal.com profile] pandarus wrote a brilliant pro-fanfiction discourse in response to the anti-fanfiction rant Robin Hobb made in her blog. Everything I could possibly say in response about how, IMO, media tie-ins are just published fan fiction, or yanno, pretty much every author is a fan of someone else and ripping then off in one way or another is said much better by Fay.
I have been reading [livejournal.com profile] go_fug_yourself on and off for a while, now, but [livejournal.com profile] serialkarma has officially converted me with this priceless entry on Blaise's mama, Barbie dolls, Supermodels who get 10K a day, and why Sienna Miller is not cute and OMG will she please go the fug away! I really just love them for the Sienna bit alone.

For [livejournal.com profile] stone_princess's birthday [livejournal.com profile] goss drew what is perhaps the most exquisite drawing I've seen in a fucking long ass time. I love Goss!drawing like whoa, and not just because she drew me kick-ass Warrior Angel for my birthday a few years back.

There's some other shit, but damned if I remember what it is. I posted music yesterday though, in case you missed it.

ETA: I have found [livejournal.com profile] nifra_idril's zombie soulmate.
ETA: Guess who is touring? RADIOHEAD, BITCHES! *thanks to [livejournal.com profile] literaryll for ruining everyone else's life until I see them.

[livejournal.com profile] calikali has thrown down the Frankenstein Mix for this month, so here you are from me to you.

Hackthis' I Blew It Mix )
I woke up at 7:28 this morning and said to myself, "Ari Self, wasn't George supposed to be on Today this morning talking about Darfur? When does Today come on? Isn't it like 6-9? I'll never catch him -- but I should check anyway, right? RIGHT."

So, I turn on the telly, and -- "Our next segment is George Clooney and his father, journalist Nick Clooney, talking about their trip to Darfur, where mass genocide has displace 2 million of the nation's 6 million inhabitants. Where inhabitants have to decide who will go out to collect supplies, the men -- who will be killed -- or the women, who will be raped."

They didn't say that part in the teaser, but it was in the interview. It's in the papers that aren't US papers. It's been said a lot. Can you imagine making that sort of decision? Can you imagine HAVING to make that sort of decision? Be glad you don't. Be thankful that you don't live in Darfur. Be horrified, be angry, be mindful of those who do.

I try not to politicise in this journal, but I've talked about Darfur once before, about a year or two ago, and things haven't changed. They've gotten worse. If you can donate just a little, the price of a pack of cigarettes or that third beer at the bar, that helps. It helps a lot. If you don't have any money, then please, PLEASE, at least sign a postcard, just to let people know that you're not going to pretend that everything's okay when it's not.

It's easy to wake up in the morning and say I'm just one person; I can't change the world; I can't really do anything -- I can't even pay my bills! I know how easy it is to feel helpless or apathetic, or say that's not my problem, but it never hurts to try, just a little bit.

Maybe if we all try a little, we can make a little difference, and a little difference is a lot better than no difference at all.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] phaballa helpfully pointed out that for people in the D.C. Metro area Save Darfur is holding a rally this weekend at the Capitol, so going out there and showing your support would up your karma points to some infinite area. Also, George Clooney will be there, and he will be SPEAKING. I know how much you guys love George. Plus, good cause.

Welcome to Chapter II wherein there are Slytherins, more Slytherins, even more Slytherins, Arithmancy, owl mail, spam mail, blackmail, black hair, ginger hair, Harry Potter, and a visit from a herbologist that likes pot. And pots. But, perhaps, is not so into pottery )

Chapter I: Welcome to the world of post-Past Events where it's not just enough to be alive and breathing, because moving on constitutes doing a little more than brushing your teeth and making sure you've put on clean underwear.
